TOY HUNTER is premiering on Monday 8:00pm on channel GO!.
Watched the first episode of Toy Hunter tonight. Transformers featured in several segments. I won't spoil it for those who are holding off & don't want to know which TF toys are featured, but there are several rare items.
Jordan (dealer/picker/host of show) is not as polished as the 2 guys on American Pickers IMO. Comes across as wishy washy & goes out of his way to be very polite. Format of the show mirrors American Pickers in that it lists what he paid, what he reckons he can re-sell for and the how much profit he can make.
I'll be watching more episodes in the remote chance I might see an appearance by Griffin & his collection (photos just don't do it justice). :p
Tonight's episode was Season 1 - Episode 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toy_Hunter).
There were some small bits of interesting info, but I didn't like the way he was haggling for items he wasn't going to keep. He gave the impression to the people that he wanted them for himself, but then boasted about how much he could make from them. He would even tell people when they had a rare item, but then offers just a couple bucks.
To give him credit though, he did say on camera to one person that one item he wanted was purely for reselling, so couldn't go any higher than about half of what he could sell it for (a standard percentage for second-hand stores, dealers, pawnshops, etc).
One bit was amusing - he tried to sound well versed in TFs, but when he came across a Bumblejumper, he had no idea what it was.
Then he came across a Lucky Draw Energon Rodimus (gold), - it was loose and people were touching it with their bare hands. Eeek!
The owner of the gold Rodimus had to explain what it was, and how rare it was.... but before he did, the Toy Hunter just seemed to see the "gold" and assumed it was worth thousands.
And being out of packaging, it's value is debatable. Even though a sealed one could go for 2-4 thousand... I wouldn't spend a thousand on the loose one (which is what it sold for).
BTW, the Transformers collector at the end who bought it, was Pete Sinclair, who works on BotCon (the only Transformers Fan employed full-time by FunPub).
His toy room was nicely set up. It would be a collection that this Toy Hunter should feature, instead of rummaging around dusty boxes and buying just 5 or 6 toys in the episode, just to show off later how much he could make from them.
I hope we get to see more toy collections, and more info on obscure figures. That just makes it bearable to watch.
Did anyone see this show on TV last night? It featured a couple of TF pieces, including a Lucky Draw Gold Rodimus from Armada (I think) and a Bumble-Jumper.
The premise is the same as all these other imported US shows about ripping people off by selling stuff, but it was a little more tolerable as it was about toys.
Was it the episode where he sold a used Bumble-Jumper for $150?
that show is awesome!! some of the toys he features on it bring back a lot of good memories. in season 2 esp 9 he goes to this blokes house and his garage is full of misb gi joe stuff from the 80's and there was a lot!! it was a 3 car garage(but in length not width). i can't wait till they air season 3 on A&E.
I've recorded it but i'll only be watching out of curiosity. I've read and heard a lot of bad press about the show.
Just consider any advice he gives to be 'massaged for ratings'.
I like the later episodes better where he has a celebrity client or is at one of comic cons. Gene Simmons is one awesome dude.
Kirk Hammet was pretty cool as well, I like the show. :)
yep i think this will be 'right up my alley'
watching tonight
If your like me and don't watch live TV you can find it on 9's new streaming tv site jump-in.com.au
i watch it for the novelty value
it is worth watching to see some of the old toys he digs up
guys you can watch the entire 3 seasons on

I did enjoy the fact that Bumble-jumper was valued at $150 and I got my a few months ago for $100
Winning!!! :D
Now that is a profit of $50 :p
I missed it :(
See if there is a copy online (the NineMSN site) or on youtube.
They sometimes repeat their shows during the week or the following weekend, so have a look through the TV Guide for that channel to see if it has a repeat.
I have it recorded on my DVD player if you are over here in the next week... :p
Looks like there are a couple of links to watch the shows online in the other topic, which I've now merged with this one.
Oh I thought it was the new season :(
Hopefully S3 starts on A&E soon
Was fun to watch it, heheh. Was right on the ball when I quoted to my friend ( he was visiting me at the time) tha Bumper would go for about $150. Which is what Mr Sinclair said it was worth. I got mine more cheaper than that by a fluke - it was sold in a group lot with a red Bumblebee and Yellow cliffjumper - along with postage which ended in a total of US$90, so all in all Bumper was $30 worth :D. I don't think Id pay for that Lucky draw Rodimus for that much...it doesn't pique my interest..those golden repaints.
The condition those TFs were in are actually good, not dilapidated - Thunderwing he kinda undervalued :p, there was also an Apeface but if the head is still there nobody knows coz he didn't really fiddle with it that much.
Well I quite liked the show, kinda wished I had watched it live now so I could say to my wife 'Check it out! That bloke just spent over a grand on 1 TF without thinking about it! See - I'm not so bad" :p
I'd be surprised if they have so much TF stuff in subsequent episodes, the TF's were really the stars of this one so chances are he will 'find' different collections in upcoming ones.
Thanks for the link :) - couldn't find a place to download the ep or even on youtube. Geez those friggin ad's are annoying though - at one point it played the same one four times in a row and I couldn't cycle past it
Yeah it was great
Very TF heavy and I love seeing other 'experts' talking about the hobby; the passion conveyed ;)
What was kind of cool was while my 5 year old was watching the showing of the collection at the end he yells out 'there's Omega Supreme there's Omega Supreme!!!!'
I had to stop rewind and pause ..... Totally missed it
Episode 2 airs tonight at 7.55pm on Channel Go!
That guy is starting to grow on me... as he wasn't as predatory this episode, justifying his prices and then not charging more than he claimed. (some could have sold for a lot more, based on how quickly some sold without haggling)
It's also good to see some vintage (pre-80s) toys and learning a little about them.
I think I can get to like this show if his episodes focus more on scouring other toy dealers store-rooms (instead of private collectors), as they know how to get a fair price for their items.
Hmmm... I wonder if that would work with RBT  :p
Didnt see the one on TV but saw some of it on youtube last time. The GI Joe haul he found was awesome.....
He doesn't seem very predatory to me. I watch American Pickers, Pawn Stars, Cash Cowboys and a bunch of similarly themed shows on 7mate. They all buy from collectors and give the selling party about 50% or less of what they will sell it for. Sometimes they will buy something for say $100 and sell it for thousands. This guy is no worse than any other Picker.
Anyway my Mum has that Green Ghost game that he found and sold last night. Can't believe it's worth $150 US.
Last night's episode had another Transformers collection, with about 1500 TFs... and a yellow VW out the front with an Autobot symbol on the front. It's just a shame that the episodes don't spend much time going over collections, but just gets straight into looking for something to buy.
One thing that impressed me in another part of the episode, was that the Toy Hunter guy actually offered to pay more for something than what the seller was wanting.
missed it, last week there wasn't any TFs.
What is the condition of the TFs? boxed/loose?
The guy seems to just have moderate/small profit from buying these toys when compared to the auction hunters.
I have watched all of season one and noticed he does this on a few occasions  says something like "I'd love to give you $100 but they're worth more than that so I'll give you $200" I'm not sure if he really is just a generous guy that is happy as long as he makes something or if it is just an act to make him look good on the show.
That aside I quite enjoy the show purely for the toy history lessons :D
he probably want to maintain good contact and relationship with these fellas, so they can go back and get toys off them.... Kinda like the american picker dudes, they sold something for so much more money then they expect, and they went back and give some of the money back to the original seller.
Yeah I remember that, the American Pickers, Mike and Frank, bought some old canvas murals from a side show that an elderly couple owned. Paid something like $500 to the couple and sold it for $10,000.00. That was really classy to go back and give a bunch of money to the couple that they had no obligation to.
I like the fact that Toy Hunter Jordan also brokers toys as we saw in episode one. He would have made $500 if he bought the Lucky Draw Rodimus and sold it. Brokering it meant that he only got $200 out of it tho, but the seller got $800. None of the other Pickers on TV do that. It's actually a smart thing to do business wise. The client refuses to part with the item for pickers buy price but will go for the higher brokerage price. Jordan makes $200 instead of $0 like most pickers would when a seller borks at the picker buy price.
I enjoy this show but wonder how much is staged. The bumble jumper bit felt that way.
I watch all the Picker shows plus Pawn Stars and American Restoration. I think they are all made for A&E channels and they are all staged to some degree. Toy Hunter is probably the least staged of the Picker shows. I got the feeling the editing for the half hour format instead of 1 hour makes it look more staged than it is.
One show I can't stand anymore is Auction Hunters (the pair of guys bidding on storage containers). They get some huge dollars from the items they re-sell, but excessively haggle over the re-sell price just so that they make even more money, and always walk away as the dominant party in the transactions. Like, selling an item for $10,000 that they only paid a few hundred for - why wouldn't you accept $8,000 being offered... and those people need a profit margin to resell it as well. (the pair are often asking at stores for a valuation, and when that store can only offer about half to make their own profit margin, the pair squeeze them for as close as to the value as possible... often just to make sure they have the final say/haggle) It's fascinating to see the treasures they sometimes dig up, but the arrogance of their haggling over items they are already making thousands of dollars profit on, puts me off watching it.
