Still no hasbro starscream. Maybe they are saving the best for last? but seriously they should have done skywarp by now...
This is very cool news! I held off on getting the Takara version for this very reason :D
Sorry but you already have gotten Starscream. It's just that they made him with the MP-03 mold.
Unfortunately Hasbro goes back and redoes figures that have already been released less often than Takara. That said I'm getting impatient waiting for version 2 of MP Skywarp and Thundercracker from Takara.
I'd like to see either Hasbro or TakaraTOMY release an MP Bitstream so that my MP Rainmaker collection will be complete. (as far as I'm concerned Sunstorm is the yellow Rainmaker :p)
Hasbro could probably get away with doing another Starscream, using the modified MP11 mould (due to it being an iconic character and being several years since the other one), but may not release another Skywarp for a while, if at all.
Acid Storm did surprisingly well, and if Sunstorm does just as well, we could very well see more colour versions.

*Starscream Hasbro white (MP03) version imported to TRU Japan.
*Acidstorm Hasbro (MP11) version was supposed to be imported to TRU Japan - but cancelled?
No, Bitstream, Hotlink and Sunstorm are clearly different than the Rainmakers. At least thats how I feel on the issue. So when the 3 got released as The Rainmakers last year at Botcon I was like WTF?
Still waiting for 3 Neon coloured Rainmakers from the Classics Seeker Mold Hasbro/Takara/FunPub.
Yeah, nah. I have enough seekers. You can only fork out $100+ for the same mould in different colours so many times (6 times in my case) before you're over it.
I'm still trying to find evidence that it did end up getting released... and if it did, was there anything stuck onto the packaging to say MP-11A (for Acidstorm).
If it doesn't have something saying MP-11A, then it doesn't count as a "TakaraTomy Masterpiece" release... and even if it does have a label on it, it is still borderline. (a bit like calling the Ghost Starscream a Hasbro release, just because it showed up at our TRU stores)
I think they'd do a red one... if it wasn't a really obscure background Seeker - because it is a major colour that hasn't been used with that mould before.
Great news! Just lost on bidding on MP Sunstorm :(
i wonder if he'll come with all the accessories that takara sunstorm came with or will he just be another thundercracker/acidstorm with the mp-03 accessories.
Good point.
While I have every G1 character depicted with the Classics Seeker mould I only have the 3 main Seekers for the MP line. I just realised that the reason I ended up not buying Takara Sunstorm was the two tone paint job. If Hasbro comes up with a solid colour for their Sunstorm I might get it.
Damn, i was really hoping for MP11 Starscream! :(
Good for guys that want one though.
Just to reiterate Trent's point, some people like the boxes and even keep them MISB (which is ludicrous ;) :p) But on a serious note, to each their own, and at the end of the day we are all fans :)
+1
Nice! I like the way you go. I don't need the box, if that was the case everything would almost be Takara issued. In fact I be happy to pay less as long as the robot is complete.
I was so close in buying the Takara one, glad I held back. This is indeed news, hope it comes into Aust TRU with a release date with enough stocks.
I am getting this so it can go with my acid storm.
Which is why you would just buy all Takara and be the end of it?
I don't think there is a dispute, all collectors are different. For me as long as it looks and is the original, I get the affordable unless there is a main feature one of them lacks over the other.
A good example is mp-01, hell no I be getting Optimus with the short smoke stacks.
I hope they colour it differently to the Tak/Tomy version, I was always irked by the fact that the Tak/Tomy version had 2 different coloured sections.
MP03 is a big exception here. Hasbro's version totally trumps Takara's... not only in looks, but also better plastic quality. :) Hasbro's Soundwave and Cassettes aren't really any better or worse than TakTOM's -- it's all a matter of personal taste. Hasbro's Soundwave appeals to those who prefer toy accuracy whereas TakTOM's goes for cartoon likeness. Although Hasbro's QA on Soundwave's visor isn't as good (re: crazy eye circles). :( Hasbro's MP Grimlock is also almost the same as TakTOM's. The inclusion of the crown over the brain scanner/waiter kit is a big plus for me as I'm a bigger fan of the G1 comics than the cartoon (but of course TakTOM's is better for cartoon fans, and their limited exclusive version for fans of Nel Yomtov ;)).
Nice. If it comes in around the $100 mark ala Acid Storm, he'll definitely be considered.
Better still if its release coincides with a 25% OFF SALE!!!
Hasbro Starscream at the time is far better then Greenscream but it still goes for the original G1 toy colors whereas the new takara MP11 colors are much more show accurate same as their Collection 9 G1 Starscream reissue. Both my Hasbro/Takara Soundwave's have the eye circles I think that's from the molding of the plastic as it has 2 pegs that attach it to the head which is what the circles probably are. Hasbro Rumble/Frenzy use white screws/pins which stick out a lot more then the black ones on Takara but it's a minor issue.
Dunno why they're releasing another minor char, I want a decent Skywarp damn it. It'd actually look better in toy colors too, I know they did universe Skywarp but that's the old mold. I guess the Hasbro Sunstorm will sell better since it'll be cheaper maybe it doesn't come with a cape at that price range.
The cape should be for starscream alone, if Hasbro does a release on mp11 perhaps I will display my mp03 Hasbro in plane mode. Also people would jump on board because the Sunstorm becomes affordable, if its at $150 or so, it may turn people off to buy the Takara version instead.
I never got around to getting Thundercracker or Acid Storm, starting to wish I had because having the lot would look damn impressive and I quite liked Sunstorm in the DW comics
Perhaps wrong marketing skill by Hasbro as everyone seem to bag Acid storm quickly. I bought it because I knew Sunstorm was possible if Acid storm was released.
If they released Sun storm first, there may be more people interested in acid storm. But it is what it is. I should expect Acid storm on Ebay getting harder once more and more people realised Sunstorm is coming out.
After having obtained the green glory that is Acidstorm, it really spurred me to want to pick up Sunstorm (Previously I had very little to no interest ;)) but I baulked at the current asking prices for the Takara version - So to hear of a possible Western release?, friggin' awesome! :D:cool:
I look at it this way - one day when I no longer want my MP collection I plan to pass it on to my grand kids. I think it will make the collection more special for them if everything is packed away into a pristine box and they get to open it rather than just handing them a loose toy.
Box Conversation aside it should match acid storm style, if it is the old in starscream style then I guess you either suck it up or buy Takara.
Either way is kind of irrelevant because Hasbro have not follow through the box style until the Soundwave and acid Storm release. Takara on the other hand had followed through so if boxes are of importance, Takara should be your goal.
I am referring to the box format (the old window plastic style), not the toy since people are being crazy over box art and what not. Which is why I said it would be following Acid Storm current style for new Hasbro mps. I didn't suggest anything. Saying that, Thunder Cracker is new Mold but OLD style packaging
But again saying that, WHY on earth would the box bother you if you were technically collecting ALL Takara style mps and decide to break pattern when there is a Takara Sun Storm? So technically is of no relevance if box art was in consideration.
I'll pass. Don't need Acid Storm either.
I didn't make any suggestions either so stop at that. I wasn't in the debate about keeping boxes that's what I referred to . I was wondering the type of packaging, and why box art is any concern for this release which was where this started. My bad on the confusion
if they go with a bright yellow box but in the same style as acidstorm would be cool... that would certainly grab the attention of the buyer :)
