As I had noted in another topic, Cyclonus, looks like a whole new toy... from the top of its jet mode and even the robot mode, you'd be forgiven to think that it was a new mould
The same with First Aid and Streetwise with their vehicle modes.
I was not too keen to get Cyclonus when it was first suggested to be using the Silverbolt mould, but now seeing it, I really want that jet mode. :D
I still prefer my Henkei Cyclonus, but this new one is still worth having. The Protectobots look great except for the missiles on Blades' rescue helicopter mode.
Going from strength to strength. Whoever has been given the free reign to create these figures is doing a top notch job.
Cyclonus looks cool, but I really would have like to see his IDW samurai look, hoping someone else will make that Cyclonus some day.
Combiner Wars/Generations: Voyager Class - Cyclonus
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B92fPx0CEAEOvnY.jpg https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B92fPXACYAEmUju.jpg
- I am a BIG proponent of Cyclonus (Except for his Unicron Trilogy incarnation) and whilst I'm glad he's receiving the modern Voyager treatment he's ALWAYS deserved, I must say I'm kind of under whelmed by this CW/Gens Voyager Silverbolt Retool/Repaint Hasbro is offering :(
- Cyclonus looks real good in Alt mode, but his Bot mode is just a pass & I remain in hope for an MP... Although, having learned that he forms "Galvatronus" by having Galvatron's head & chest for a combined mode? - I'm slowly coming around. :o
Combiner Wars/Generations: Voyager Class - Hotspot
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B92dzjeCAAAdZy6.jpg https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B92dzxxCEAInPRt.jpg
- CW/Gens Voyager Hotspot looks pretty damn nice, loving the update and the colour placement, should it not vary ;), is entirely spot-on. :)
- Looking closer at the pics however, it'd seem Hotspot is gonna have some hollowness that'll likely be contentious. :o
- TOTALLY got to get a Car Robots/R.i.D Optimus Prime out of this one!
Combiner Wars/Generations: Deluxe Class - Blades
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B92kGEvCQAAwLzH.jpg https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B92kGE5CMAAV7V3.jpg
- Blades looks GREAT and is exactly what I was hoping for/expecting out of a modern take of that character/vehicle. :)
- The CW/Gens Helicopter mold was very clearly designed to get A LOT of use & versatility is definitely its strong point as it'll see at least 4 uses, including the Fan-voted Combiner limb ;) - I very much look forward to adding CW/Gens Blades to my army :D
Combiner Wars/Generations: Deluxe Class - First-Aid
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B92nHeWCMAAYXuO.jpg https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B92nHiLCEAAjpuN.jpg
- OH MAN! :O - First-Aid seems to of been transferred out to the Bush & has adopted an Alt mode to suit! - CW/Gens Deluxe First-Aid is BADASS!:D
- The Head sculpt of First-Aid looks ripped right out of the IDW comics, but with an Alt mode robust enough to take some flak if required. ;)
- First-Aid is an Ambo with an odd instrument choice but with a Bush-Bashin' Alt mode like that? - WGAF? :D
Combiner Wars/Generations: Deluxe Class - Streetwise
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B92p4DhCUAEaMDh.jpg https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B92p4LMCAAAl6h6.jpg
- Streetwise is probably the guy who needed a modern take on his engineering the most as his G1 transformation, whilst different, was odd to say the least. :o
- Streetwise seems to solve all of his issues whilst looking much more integrated into the Protectobot aesthetic, especially as he wasn't a "Block-head" ;)
- Continuing the brilliance of these updates. :)
Combiner Wars/Generations: Deluxe Class - Rook
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B92rbYqCEAEwPiJ.jpg https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B92rbcbCUAABnDZ.jpg
- Now, the "New Recruit" to the CW/Gens Protectobots, going by the name of Rook, is such a superb addition to their ranks as I've often been told by my Father, a 20 year Veteran Rescue Ambulance Officer, that Emergency Services (Ambos, Firies, SES etc.) REGULARLY required Police escort for many situations (Alcoholics/Druggos/The Mentally Disturbed) & whilst Streetwise's presence would be reassuring, sometimes you need a little more muscle! :D
- We had better get a Beast Machines/TF: Animated - Strika out of this mold!
Combiner Wars/Generations: Legends Class - Groove
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B92tudGCEAI_6n6.jpg https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B92tuVOCAAE3Qmi.jpg
- WHOA! - I am glad to see the smaller scale being employed with CW/Gens Legends Groove, his Motorcycle Alt mode is a total love-letter to Anime-based Bikes (Mospeada & Akira come to mind) but Groove in Bot mode has ended up being one LANKY motherf***er! :p
- Groove has a sweet Alt mode, but his Bot mode is holding onto the last vestiges of his former height! :p:D
Combiner Wars/Generations: Combiner Class - "Protectobot" Defensor
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B92iDRUCEAEVmbZ.jpg https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B92iDRVCYAEvyVe.jpg
- Oh hell yeah! - CW/Gens Defensor look EXCELLENT as a modern take, I am totally down with a new member being brought in for Limb-duty and Groove being relegated to Chest Defence, as it's such a logical & elegant mitigation of the whole scale issue without going "Cybertronian". ;)
- THIS is a bloody worthy modern Defensor and worth everybody's attention, CW/Gens Combiners may have odd proportions but who cares when they look this awesome! :D
These are great. That's all I have to say!:)
All the individual Protectobots look great. Combined mode is a bit off though. He looks to fat, which is accentuated by those tiny feet.
I'm particularly a fan of Groove
Hursti thanks for mirroring the images for everyone on here to see :D
Groove looks a bit gangly to me, and Defensor's gun looks like it needs a bit of added chunkyness but overall, I think it's a cool set.
Absolutely loving the G1 heads on all of the CW figures!!
Rook looks a bit like he could be made into a proper impactor. Which im most definitely all for. Not a fan of my cheap plastic onslaught version :p
Lovin the Protectobots, however its the individual bots that shine rather than the combiner. Hot Spot is brilliant but I still wonder what awesomeness could have been if he didn't have to share so much form with Onslaught. Also that is a very lame combiner gun.
Cyclonus is lookin pretty awesome given that he's a heavy retool of Silverbolt. But even after all that I wish they gave him a unique weapon. :)
I can see images while on Twitter, but can't see twitter images (and photobucket images) inserted into posts.... which has me stumped, because it must mean my browser isn't blocking it, unless it is in conjunction with this site... almost as if there was a user setting on this site blocking just those two sites' images. Which is not something a personal user here can just block or allow.
As for the browser, I'm actually using Firefox, and their help pages and website coldnn't help (I tried all their suggestions).
An older version actually had the setting in the options tab to block or allow images (according to some old help pages I found in a google search)... but the last few versions of firefox removed it.
No surprise though... as these sorts of nuisances that defy logic are something I've had to get used to a long time ago. :(
Back to the topic at hand... FunPub must be just grinning with dollar signs in their eyes at all these Gen1-ish moulds they will have at their disposal from next year.
Thanks again Hurtsi for mirroring all these images and your write ups!!
They all look so good!! Hasbro keep sucking me back in... also do you think street wise will end up being a wild rider repaint?
That's a right pain mate as I was going to swap the host to my Photobucket account but it would seem that'd make no difference for you either - I wonder if many others are having the same issues?:(
No doubt! :pQuote:
Back to the topic at hand... FunPub must be just grinning with dollar signs in their eyes at all these Gen1-ish moulds they will have at their disposal from next year.
Every single one of these Combiner Wars-era molds are extremely versatile in their design, making them very favourable to repurposing - My only gripe will be if they get to produce things that SHOULD be available en masse, like the Classics mold Seekers for instance (Which thankfully saw mass retail releases, eventuall). ;):)
I wonder what Takara Tomy is going to do for their Defensor? Unlike Superion and Menasor they can't easily swap Rook with a remoulded Deluxe class police motorbike and call him Groove.
Ahem... :p
I'll be sticking with my Generations Cyclonus.
+1, Generation Cyclonus is one of the best CHUG deluxe's Hasbro have ever done, as cool as this new ones jet mode looks from above, I'm going to bet there is still a folded up robot stuck to the bottom. Deluxe Cyclonus jet may not be as sleek from above but at least it hides the robot inside.
Can Takara already reveal the actual product of the United Superion? Can't decide to go thru Hasbro or Tak with these Combiners
But really can't wait for Defensor...these guys are my fav :D
EDIT: Except yeah the combiner weapon just looks like RoTF Jetfires walking stick
I agree that the Deluxe Classics/Universe Cyclonus is the most cartoon/comic accurate classic-verse version so far... but the sculpting and colour of this one is so captivating, that I still want one.
I've always liked the lame explanation for having two Cyclonuses in a collection: one's Cyclonus, one's "his" Armada. Actually a separate character called Armada, but maybe they're conjux endura or something. Doesn't explain why they look like each other, but I guess some couples just look alike.
Boy, that post went in a direction I wasn't expecting.
do you think the cyclonus style and this 'galvatronus' thing is a sign of changes to come in the comics?
This line just keeps getting better and better!!! :)
Defensor looks tough, not fat or blocky, but up to his name. Looks like he'd be very hard to take on and take a lot of punishment, and probably only the combaticons could take him on.
This combiner wars came out of nowhere for me, and look great, finally something interesting, and yet, seems to be something I've waited almost 30 years to see retail again, that is combiner toys sold separately. Another good thing is having tons of cash to just buy these things instead of begging parents. :)
Cyclonus is hot.
Groove looks really sweet as a chest piece.
Man Transformers make you say some weird stuff.
I'm coming around to the Defensor. Hopefully they make me some Terrorcons!!:D
Just don't run around shouting Breasto Attack!!!!
especially in public :p
Really wasnt into Defensor at first, but he's grown on me a lot. I'd like to see Rook's limb swivelled at the waist cos that thick forearm looks out of proportion. That said, I'll probably display these in individual robot modes cos they all look sweet as!
Wont be getting Cyclonus by wow that Defensor is awesome. Really digging this CW line... getting me back into collecting again (Is that a good thing?:p)
So it looks like Galvatronus won't be a full set of new combiner toys, just Cyclonus with whomever he wants as his limbs.
An image from what looks to be from the fan-vote App, has Galvatronus with Cyclonus as the core, Dragstrip & Breakdown as the legs, and what looks like Skydive and Air Raid as the arms.
So it's a bit like the Power Core Combiners, in that there might be some main default combinations (like for Superion and Menasor), but of the 6 Voyagers and 16 Deluxe combiners, you can mix and match regardless of what is on the back of the packaging or the Gen1 combination, but the name of the combiner stays the same as what is dictated by the core Voyager toy.
The five known Voyagers, and their confirmed combiner names.
Silverbolt with any four limbs - Superion
Optimus Prime with any four limbs - Ultra Prime
Motormaster with any four limbs - Menasor
Hot Spot with any four limbs - Defensor
Cyclonus with any four limbs - Galvatronus
