Seriously, IDW need to stop using FF.net for their ideas.

If the story ends up at essentially the same point at the end, just with Prime instead of Roddy, I'll be disappointed.
Hopefully Prime finishes Megatron.
Such a wonderful concept and just so pleased this is a thing actually happening.
From the interview you get sense the creative team are very much fans and get the importance of doing a story like this.
Can't wait to get my hot little hands on this...
Happy 30th Anniversary of TF:TM everyone. Here, have a book that writes a different ending for it...?
I thought you'd be happy to see a half-assed effort for the Movie Anniversary, so that it isn't just the BW Anniversary that's half-assed next year. :p
Since us oldies from 20 or 30 years ago aren't the bread-n-butter of Hasbro and IDW, getting something for both Anniversaries, no matter how insignificant they may be, is probably a good thing (mostly for their own marketing benefit than our benefit). They could have just ignored it completely like other series/eras that don't get commemorated at their anniversaries.
I'd like to see an Animated anniversary in 2018, but unless FunPub do something, I can't see Hasbro delving back into that unique series (in terms of aesthetics with the toys)... but that's sidetracking a little in this topic.
G1 fans can't feel shortchanged about 2016 when the entire Titan's Return line seems to be G1 toys; following on from 2015's Combiner Wars, which was full of G1 toys.
To me, the older fans are being well taken care of. Everyone else is out in the cold.
For more context since I think the TFTM setting is a coincidence not an anniversary celebration ("anniversary" isn't used once on the interview) this is one of five what if one-shots IDW are putting out next March.

All of the titles that make up this 5-week event have featured stories that have led to fun fan debates over what might have happened if a big event had gone another way, whether in past comics, TV series, or movies. So this is taking a big, fan-favorite moment and spinning that story in another direction to explore what could’ve been
The series, and the catalyst for the stories, are:
Ghostbusters: “In a world… where the Ghostbusters NEVER crossed streams!”
G.I. JOE: “In a world… where COBRA turns the table on G.I. JOE.”
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: “In a world… where Shredder leads the Turtles.”
Transformers: “In a world… where Optimus Prime never died!”
The X-Files: “In a world… where young Fox Mulder was abducted by aliens!”
I like the premise of the Turtles one. I wonder if Shredder will be good or the turtles will be bad?
I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with.
Optimus never deserved such a poor ending and I STILL blame Hot Rod for it so if they can make some kind of amends I'm all for it.
I don't mind them killing Optimus, but I would prefer to see him go down fighting or his death have more meaning than the original.
It's PAINFULLY obvious what would have happened if Optimus had not died in the animated movie and I don't expect this comic to deviate from that:
*Optimus kills Megatron. Has a realization "Holy s**t! I've been fighting this guy for 9 millions years and I killed him! I finally f***ing killed him"
*Unicron shows up. Optimus - full of vim and vigour from killing his arch enemy simply flies down Unicrons maw, opens the matrix and destroys him.
*Optimus has another realization "Holy fraggin s**t! I killed a god! I killed a f***king god! I'm awesome!"
*Optimus then goes around killing all the Decepticon leaders - Shockwave, Starscream, Soundwave etc. All the remaining Decepticons go into hiding or run like hell!
*Optimus decides that now the Cybertronian Wars are over and he is so cool that he better go from planet to planet making sure that "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" and slagging the crap out of any planetary government (including Earths) that doesn't fully practice it. Puts Autobots in charge of the planets to maintain the 'freedom'.
*The Universe finally free (under his control) Optimus gets bored. Marries Elita-1, gets bored, cheats on her with Arcee. Argues that if he can kill fricken gods and 'free' the universe he can do whatever - and whoever - the hell he likes!
*Now divorced Optimus demands a bride from each 'liberated' planet. To make sure they are compatible with his biology he has each alien bride retrofitted to be half femmebot.
*Gets bored again, finds the core of Primus within Cybertron. Merges with it, takes it over, mechaforms Cybertron into a giant celestial body for himself.
*Spends the next few million years floating through space in his planet sized body while his millions of alien-femmebot hybrid wives live on his surface and spend all day every day giving every inch of him a damn good buffing and spit polish.
I mean, c'mon people, who didn't see that ending coming eh? ;)
Wow, that's certainly an interesting alternate timeline there
Trev you have put way to much thought into that :p;)
I think someone's had a touch too much radium in their dirty mech fluid... :p
I just think it is the logical progression of what would have happened ifPrime hadn't died ;)
I have zero doubt you will see this exact storyline in the comic next year
Will read this, but that last panel doesn't sit right with me... I guess it comes down to whether the other Decepticons were dead by this time (which is possible in TFTM and slightly more canon in other TFTM related materials) or not.
Or maybe it's because I wrote a Transformers Mosaic on this topic years ago.
You know whats scary? I wrote the above as a spoof last year and now it seems to be the story arc of the ongoing Transformers comic "All Hail Optimus", with Optimus annexing Earth in order to maintain their 'freedom'
I just knew this was coming. Wonder if the writers read my post? ;)
Did we lose a post? Could have sworn that I read 3 pages of a what if style TF comic for the 86 movie here.
I'll be keen to read it too. Always liked the Marvel what if and DC elseworlds type stories (though one can argue that with the rate DC change continuity, just about everything can be considered elseworlds these days  )
I didn't realise Griffin already posted the news here, so I deleted my post as I didn't want to double up.
