Looks like we're going to get a Platinum Edition version of Unicron, although there are no details yet on what (if any) changes there will be.
Robot Kingdom already have a listing up, with a price tag of US$129.90 and a December release date.

Interesting, I don't have this mould so I'll be tempted to pick it up. Wonder if they will update it in any way?
hmmm not sure I've got the space.... but tempted...
Curious what this new one will be like. Not unexpected it pretty much the last remaining thing needed for the Platnium 30th Anniversary line.
I was thinking about getting rid of the 2010 version but now people will probably wait to see if the new one is better! :o
Hopefully with colours equivalent to the 2010 Takara Unicron. Yes please.
Wonder if it will be coloured Green.
Paint it in the same colours as primus, while also making a platinum edition primus in the colours of unicron
Will be keen to see more on the changes in this release. The Armada Unicron was my first supreme class fig and I was in awe of this chunky bot of awesome back in the day.
hmm interesting as bbts has it listed as a takara release not platinum.
Meh...wake me up when they put the Planet-bots out in Titan Class.
Same. I love my Armada Unicron, if they are to reissue him I'd like to see a display stand for him in planet mode so he can sit in the air properly
Yep, Primus and Unicron should be the biggest - something like Super-Alpha-Turbo-HyperEdition sized Titans, worked for SFII :p
So expenseeve! I'm happy to stick with my Armada Unicron, thanks. And to think that many of us considered Armada Unicron's initial AU$145 price to be expensive... which it was.
BBTS has it listed as coming with Kranix. Which would be hilariously funny to re-enact his death with G1 coloured Unicron.
Unless they are calling the mini-con (Deadend?) Kranix now?
Happy with my 2010 version.
Seriously, are you agreeing with me or disagreeing? I've never owned one simply because in all the promotional imagery I've ever seen it looks like the front is round and the back is square. I've always figured that at some point in the future a better, rounder one would show up.
The only Unicron toys I have are the one from TF Prime, the Robot heroes one and the Titanium one.
Unicron was always going to be a difficult toy to make because it's based on a cartoon model which largely ignores laws of reality and has much of its outside shell disappearing into thin air. So your options are either to:
* Have a round planetoid mode but with a rotund robot mode. The G1 Unicron toy (which never made it past the prototype phase) suffered from this. The Beast Wars Unicron toy was better but still not as great as the Armada one that we got in the end.
* Have a good looking robot mode but sacrifice the rotundness of the planetoid mode. This was the option that they went with Armada Unicron.
* Use MP level engineering and absorb a lot of the outer shell into the robot mode. We've seen TakaraTOMY achieve engineering marvels with toys like MP Ironhide/Ratchet. But to do this at Unicron's scale may make the toy hideously expensive. Armada Unicron is still basically a toy that was designed for kids to play with, much like say Henkei/Universe Deluxe Ironhide/Ratchet. Deluxe Ironhide/Ratchet was around the $30 range vs MP Ironhide/Ratchet who are about $130 at full RRP, so more than quadruple times the price of the Deluxe. Armada Unicron sold for $145, so an MP-level Unicron may cost around $600. No Transformer has ever cost that much... it would double the price of a G1 Fortress Maximus. Yeah... no.
Gok I think you're trivialising the complexity of the Generations Ironhide/Ratchet Mould. Design, parts count wise, just because something is larger doesn't necessarily mean costs/prices will increase linearly.
Either way, I think perhaps a couple/few hundred Dollars for a round Unicron that hides/incorporates logically, most of the round surfaces of the planet mode into the robot mode would be a welcome addition to my collection.
Every time they re-release the Armada toy with new paint and mouldings to make it more G1 movie accurate I get closer to buying it though.
I agree partly with Goktimus about the extra engineering and complexity involved for a MP Style Unicron, but I can't see Takara devoting SO much resources to a product at that sort of price point. While I would personally buy it, you'd have a reduced volume of sales, and when Takara has gone BIG (Encore Metroplex, Fortress Maximus, etc) they've been shelf warmers.
If it were a choice between say a new Encore release of Overlord or Scorponok and a MP Unicron, I know which would sell more and be less of a financial risk.
Well, looks like I have my son's Xmas present sorted.
He's been hounding me for a Unicron for over 6 months. ;)
Hope we get to see a prototype of it soon.

Looks no different to the 25th anni Hasbro version from what I can see
Exceptionally slight paint differences in some spots, otherwise the same. I'm happy as I always wanted the 25th version anyway :p
I do have Armada and Energon Unicrons but I did miss out on the 25th Anniversary version. So I might have to pick this one up. Hopefully PC will stock it :D
Those look to be better colours for Megatron. Not a fan of bright orange and there's a bit too much red for my liking (and I suspect that the gun mode may be even redder), but it looks better than the "clown colours" of the original Hasbro version. Still not inspired to get it though... I'll stick w/ my Henkei Megatron
Oh great, he's displayed with holding his mate in his hand.
