My first thought was a Knock-Off... but I don't think I've seen Optimus KOed without a trailer before. I guess if it is real, we should see an official announcement soon (surprised to not see it listed on online stores before it was seen in-hand).
It just looksnakedwrong without a trailer.
Is that full sized smoke stacks?!!! :D
Well I was expecting some 2019 releases but I wasn't expecting this. The biggest question of all, why does the packaging have rounded edges while the first lot had square edges? :p Perhaps because this doesn't have the trailer then I can't be passed off as a full copy of the original?
So bought! I got burned a while back with some encores I got from a dodgy seller where the Trailer was fine, but the cabs had some serious damage issues. 2 of these are a no brainer for me.
Incidentally, I wonder if these will show up in Cotton On Kids out here like the minicars did - possibly for the $40-$50 mark.
This is so awesome!
Just bought for the stacks to swap over. It's very weak there is no trailer, they must have needed the extra plastic for that other cra.... .... stuff in the picture.
If you guys really want a trailer then I hear Takara will sell you an Optimus with a trailer for 50,000 JPY.:p
I'm probably in the minority, I think that packaging looks really neat without a trailer.
I'll probably get a few of these to hand out to kids I know and to keep a MISB version for myself.
Nope, I like it too! I don't need it but it kinda looks cool just the cab in that small G1 inspired box
I always thought the snipped smokestacks were a cost saving measure? Without the expense of needing to make the trailer they can go all out..hopefully die-cast is included to...
It does look a little naked without the trailer, but I need 2 of these. I love the box and I really hope it will be a quality figure to enjoy as well.
Maybe as a marketing/cash-grab gimmick, they will re-release it WITH trailer later down the track (maybe to coincide with an Optimus Prime movie??) ... and you know what - I'd be fine buying that too!
Still gut wrenching to see it without the trailer but the deep red/blue and long smokestacks make up for it. I’ll also be pre-ordering two like I did with the new MP Prime.
Definitely cool for the retro box. I'm not worried about the lack of trailer, already got MP-10 for that
Hhhmmmmm... on one hand I do wish that it came with a trailer because it does look incomplete with out it. I do love how the box is using the Hasbro G1 box art, not the Takara one. Haven't seen that on a reissue Optimus Prime since 1990 (1993 if you count G2). But the puny size of the box kinda spoils it.
One the other hand it ought to make this toy cheaper which should hopefully encourage more people to buy it. The reason why a reissue Optimus Prime might shelfwarm is because, let's face it, it is the single most reissued toy in all of Transformers. The market has been saturated with all kinds of reissues of this mould.
I would be tempted to buy this. While the box is undersized, the G1 accurate artwork alone makes it really tempting. And a cheaper reissue does make it easier to justify purchasing yet another version of this mould which I'm chiefly buying for a piece of cardboard. Okay, that sounds really stupid when I say it aloud. :p
Not stupid at all Goktimus. The artwork was beautiful and shifted a lot of toys. Unlike the 'modern' toys that show both vehicle and robot mode on the backer card, the artwork gave you a beautiful illustration of the toy (that was sometimes better than the actual robot mode, lol). The transformation steps on the top of the box were always too small to make out details, and I know when it was a new character it was the artwork that made me decide which one to purchase.
But unfortunately it doesn't make for a cheaper reissue, given the higher rrp. You could wait for the deep discount when it's on clearance from shelfwarming (12.87 for Hot Rod), but its a risk.
I would kill for a G1 reissue with the old box style (Encore didn't have the flap).... and often tempted to buy a KO..... but it just wouldn't be the same :(
I have so many official reissues opened anyway. It wold only be for display MISB, but it'd be purty
I actually don't mind the lack of a trailer and I can see a few different reasons why this isn't a bad way to go.
Firstly, about 4 years ago, I got screwed over buying a couple of Encore Convoys on eBay which were advertised as pristine but when I got them the cabs were screwed over by really bad water damage (as an aside, when I mentioned this on another TF forum, the general response from people was to the effect of "Is that a-hole still at it with that scam?!"); what really sucked was I bought one to be my wedding cake topper and the other to put away down the track for kids.
But I digress.
The trailers and accessories are largely fine, but the cabs are fodder, so this reissue works great for me. Likewise, for anyone who has a good trailer, but damaged Prime cab, this reissue is just what the doctor ordered.
Secondly, let's be honest- trailers are a pain in the tail to display and if we're honest, we tend to store them rather than display them when space becomes an issue. This way, the figure can be displayed and the trailer becomes a non-issue.
Thirdly and finally, if this is how much he costs without the trailer, I shudder to think about how much he'd cost with a trailer, not to mention that the missiles and launchers would be completely nerfed. A cheaper Optimus gives both collectors on a budet, and parents buying for their kids, a much more affordable option when it comes to buying a G1 Optimus Prime.
I just wanted to mention that for the last 13 years (since the Unicron Trilogy), Optimus Prime has been more know for being just a cab, which includes the main bulk of the current fandom (the Movie Universe). With an occasional toy or rare appearance with a Trailer throughout that time (TF3 in 2011 had the most appearances of a Trailer, while other cartoon/Movie series during this time maybe had one gimmick toy with a trailer).
If it wasn't for the Generations toylines aimed more at the older, pre-Movie collectors, we probably wouldn't even have "homage" trailer toys for Optimus.
As such, I don't think too many people buying this reissue will care, because it will still be the Optimus (robot) toy that they are used to, without paying extra for a plastic box that will mostly sit on a display shelf or in a storage container.
More like Hasbro have been influenced by selling the movie Optimus Primes toys without a trailer and thought they could sell the reissue to everybody without it.
That and it was a cost cutting exercise.
Still absolutely gut wrenched seeing it without the trailer. It’s foul and offensive. It makes me sick to my stomach.........I’m buying two :D

We can pretty much agree that the trailer won't really be missed overall for various reasons, but how about a g1 cartoon gun?
It's such a pretty box. I'm happy with my 25th anniversary edition version (can't believe it's 10 years old!) but will buy one to keep MISB.
I wouldn't mind this "Lite" reissue if the price is also cheaper. Cos Encore Convoy was about AU$70 and that has the whole kit and kaboodle. Heck, you can still get a 2000 reissue Convoy for about AU$100. If this reissue works out to be around $50ish then I'd consider it, but if it's closer to $100 then you might as well get a Japanese reissue and get more bang for your buck.
Comparisons like that can't even hold water.
The 2019 reissue OP is MISB whereas the 2000 reissue Convoy from Mandarake has been TRASHED by its previous owner(s).
And where can one readily source 2007 MISB Encore Convoy for AUD70 in 2018/2019?
I recall there were two Hasbro 25th Anniversary versions. An American and International releases. Not the Pinktimus Prime. :p
According to TFW, this Optimus might be US$50 (that's about AU$72 - which would be AU$100 if sold here), and will come with two guns, which I'm not sure what the second gun will be.
Okay, I can't justify paying that price. Not when I could buy a Japanese reissue complete with Trailer and Roller for the same price right now. :/
If Cotton On happens to get a European version sold at a cheaper price then I might consider it. But if it's going to be close to or at AU$100 then you might as well just get the Takara reissue.
Oh, you're right... I thought it was just the box, but the hose is broken too.
Still, given the choice of paying $100 for just an Optimus Prime cab robot with nothing else vs an Optimus Prime with everything except an in tact hose, I still think that the Mandarake figure offers better dollar value.
The Wal Mart reissue is still offering less at a similar price.
I'm still not sure where most of us will be able to get this version with the US box art.
As others have said, I would pretty much buy this just for the sexy packaging. Cotton On international won't cut it for me here.
Regular and bloated rifles.
