Actually.... looking more like Siege Mega
If the sword and cannon are actually indicative of the mould they used, then Siege Megatron.
Did not expect wings to be added to the tank.
You say “ crappy third mode I used to make up as a kid” but I see him carrying on the tradition of movie, early Animated, and Prime Megatron toys with their “lay the robot down and open up some wings and it’s a Cybertronian spaceship” official alt modes
Yeah, I don't think they've done too bad considering it was originally a tank. Which they could have left it as and you'd all still buy it (after much whinging, of course).
Slightly disappointed that my Super Megatron theory was incorrect, but it's still a cool and creative reuse of the mould.
Inventive and just as convincing flying alt mode as Siege Soundwave.
Very nice colour application too. I think they've adapted it rather well

I'm actually pretty impressed with the add ons used to make it a space ship mode, and retain the design of the wings in robot mode
Others elsewhere have noted that the silhouette lines up closely to Prime Megatron, so it's not entirely out of order - and just as realistic as Energon Megatron's jet form.
The head from the Urban Camo Selects Megatron would have been a better fit with the SG shape and character though.
