Combiner project 2 - Dinobots, combine

Hi guys,

Since I moved, the creative spark seems to get triggered this month...

I have started a second project working together with the first project of Dinoking, is the Dinobots Combine. I know they were never meant to but I couldnt resist. This is my version of the Dinobots in the combination mode.

When I first got into custom, another fellow I met in the custom community suggested we work on a dinobots combiner. I had no idea where to start at the time. I feel proud that those days are a thing of the past and I am pursuing with this project.

Keep in mind, in the pic, I am using Superion's head. This was just for test shot and will look to mod a head for Grimlock.

Although I think superion's head is a good place to start.

The only problem with this is that the dinobots combination requires 6 figures. Not the 5. Therefore, I need a Slag to complete this custom. If anyone has one, please PM me to see this custom complete :). I am going to repaint the entire figure also. Some of the chrome on my G1 have worn abit.

As Dinoking is already taken as a name, what should this one be called?

Its a tough one and have had many valuable names. Particularly Gok's... wink wink ;)

Here is an update on the progress tonight. I am almost ready to combine them. The waist and legs joints are done. Just need to wait for the putty to dry. Hopefully its touch enough.

BTW, this custom, I will keep all the Dinobots still transformable individually.

They look like some kind of Mega-Block piece. I haven't seen Lego do anything like that before.
Although the piece on top of the waist is a Lego piece

Sam, the arms come from a Japanese block/brick set called Building Blocks although the makeup seems to be the same as Lego. I got it when I was overseas.

Golden Phoenix, the piece ontop of the waist is a joint part from Bionicles which I find the parts are great for customs.

Teratron , yeah its simple, but when you look at its meaning - Tera - comes from the greek word teras which means monster. And this is one monster of a Combiner. Not to mention heavy heheheh Tera comes after Giga which comes after Mega in the heaviness of things ( prefix wise) :D

Awesome stuff Kelvin. Even unfinished he's my favourite of the customs of yours that I've seen. Can't wait to see him stand up.

As for the name, I like Liegeprime's latest suggestion. You have to keep it simple otherwise the dinobots might not be able to pronounce it.

"Bob" - it's only one syllable. :)

"Dinobots unite and form -- Bob!" :D

Imagine Grimmy saying: "Dinobots combine and form Teratron". Has a definite ring to it.

Also, you are right, this is one heavy combiner... Diecast you could say... and I have had a lot of trouble getting the parts on. The waist I am going to have to make bulkier to withstand the upper body. After that, will be the legs challenge.

Okay, from now on, its decided. Teratron it is. Thanks Liege for the name suggestion and to all those that also provided. Gok, love BOB -was it abbreviated from Bandits of Brainiacs ... hehehe

Thanks Stencilator for the comment being your fav of my customs... I am getting better at this... but well, I just had to do it to the dinobots... It was what got me into customs initially.

I hope to make progress this weekend on both the customs of Dinoking and Teratron. :)

This had to go back into the workshop as the body weight was too much for the feet. I have started a new version.

This is a WIP where the bottom half of the combiner is working out. I am still working out the top half and the head.

I really liked the last version... the swoop chest was a really nice touch... but this works too.... and he stands!!!

I reckon you could even keep the dino head, or even better, the option for either a dino head or bot head. One to do the thinking about smashin' stuff and one for doing it.

Thanks Stencilator for the comments. This custom is working out nicely.. I have the upper body done last night and the arms. Now I just need to attach it to the body... Should have this assembled by this weekend. I have a tentative head for it.. and its a mean looking thing. But not sure if this is good for it until all put together.

Loophole, thanks for following this thread. Your customs and paint jobs are excellent too.

Would love to share some notes about the paint work. From memory, do you use spray paint or hand?

Okay. here is an update. Managed to get the pieces to fit together. Painting and minor details updates still to come but here is the combined view.

I used a Megatron Movie head instead of creating one. I felt this one has an organic feeling towards it and perhaps suit the dinobots well.

I like the way it has turned out, the only part im not fond of is the head, reason being is, the rest of his body is quite bulky all which In my opinion makes his head look small ( I think its actually more so the neck ). All in all great job KC!

Not a huge fan of the head either, but as I cannot think of anything better to use.

Looks great all in silver, he's nice and bulky, but not overly bluky, especially around the joints.

Like Swoop as an arm too.

Been really enjoying seeing your customs KC, they are pretty damn clever.

Fantastic work Kelvin! I love it. I do agree with the comments about the head. Megs' head has a very round shape with a pointy chin which accentuates his skinny neck. A head more like the shape of the original one you were working on might make his neck look more solid. I also think a simpler head design might work better as his body has so much going on already.

Absolutely awesome stuff though. Can't wait to see the next one finished.

In what story/fiction/book did paddles appear in? I can't find a source in the wiki just that he is from some text story.

Okay.. I am getting a new head sorted out for Terratron. he will change significantly with a new head.

However, in the meantime, I have added a sword for him. This comes from Animated Grimlock and suits well on him.
