No, IDW Furmanverse is good but the G1 Marvelverse (particularly the Furman part) is better.
Kup can you point me in the direction of specific Furman-Marvel storylines/tradepaperbacks I should pick up?

Marvel Furmanverse is Transformers for me. Growing up the cartoon paled in comparison to the comics, they were the underpinning real stories, the deeper examinations and fleshing out of everything great about Transformers.
I second those recommened texts above, great reading, yes a little dated and you need to look past some of the art but its just quality.
1980s comics have nostaglia going for them, but I believe that of printed fiction since 2000, the IDW Furmanverse has been the best.

I have no doubts that Furman's Marvel UK and US G1 work, Beast Wars, Masterforce and Animated are all better than the IDW Furmanverse.
yeah i second that, i read the old G1 generation comics and there pretty good (characters exploration and stories), compared to the recent stuff after Dreamwave (Inflitration - onwards) which don't do much for the casual comic book reader , apart from Megatron origins and Stormbringer which were brilliantQuote:

While Furman's IDWverse is good, his work on G1/G2 Marvel was better... especially considering that he was a bit more restricted then because he was under the dictate of Hasbro whereas under IDW he seems to have more freedom. I like the story of how Furman wrote a completely ridiculous script as a joke to see if Hasbro was even paying attention to all the stories that they'd been approving -- they disapproved it. :D
Nostalgia's also a big thing having grown up reading those comics -- I share damnyouhussies' sentiment; to me G1 fiction was the comics over the campy cartoon.
are the only ones qualified for this those who've read every single Furman book> ?
Where as I enjoyed reading IDW Furman I don't think I would call it the best TF fiction... It would be close though.
although the recent IDW comics are the best lately, especially war within. but his 'greatest' work would have to be G1 Marvel UK.

pretty much for the fact that the new stuff excites me more now that re-reading the old stuff. not to say anythings wrong about the G1 stuff (i do love it), but the IDW furmanverse gives a fresh look with good art, improved/modern character designs, and different stories.
suppose its a bit like comparing G1 toys and (say) henkei/classics/universe.
G1 OP is still the real OP, but is it more fun to play/pose classics prime? i think so.
Yeah but you also need to look at it in context. Remember that the G1 comics are more than 20 years old and that Furman's IDW writing is built on a lot of things that he 'pioneered' in the 80s. The colouring in the UK comics is pretty darn good considering that it was done by hand rather than on computer. In the 1980s these comics amazed the pants off us! :) Likewise the original 1984 Optimus Prime toy may not be as well engineered as Classics/Henkei Prime, but let's face it, in 1984 this toy was just brilliant!

The thing I really like about the IDW Furmanverse is how the robots in disguise angle is played. It's interesting to see that the war is being waged covertly-at least at first, anyhow. I also like how characters from all over G1 are showing up, not just the ones that everyone remembers.
In terms of his first stories at Marvel UK, I really liked the stuff that was going on-particularly as it was FAR better and more complex than the cartoon. It gave depth to characters, and made some (Ultra Magnus, for once) infinitely more awesome than their animated counterparts.
However, I can't decide one over the other. I like them both, and think they're equally awesome.
Furman's IDW work is pretty terrible.

The G1 comics were still very placid around the 18th (up to 30th if you want to count Stormbringer and Spotlights), with the only deaths being new minor characters (until Prime, that is). G2 was the only series that went bat s**t insane from the get-go and that was because of the help it had from the G1 comics.Quote:
