I was looking at Juzmels collection withh all those unopen boxes earlier and it look so cool and i realise have ROTF toys still in there boxes I was so tempted to open them but then i hesitated? do you guys think i should just open it or have seperate sets of open transformers and one in boxes? any feedbacks?

If you're thinking of keeping in boxes for the purpose of gaining value, I hardly think ROTF series is worth it. Its not like its rare of unique.
Buying in doubles means spending twice as much (as if this isn't an expensive enough hobby as it is) and also twice as much space (which I also struggle to find more of). If you like to open your toys but prefer to display them sealed, then get everything from Japan because most Japanese toy packaging is designed to be repackaged, even carded toys.
I personally just open the suckers and throw the packaging into the recycling bin. :)

I agree with others regarding ROTF not being the best investment. I buy spares of my favorite toys in case I break them 5-6 years later, then i don't have to worry about tracking down an expensive, vintage toy. I also really like the look of TFs in package, but that's pretty line-specific. Unfortunately, with ROTF, unlike its Universe and Animated predecessors, Hasbro didn't make the side-view display-worthy, which makes spacial demands more heavy.

I keep every plastic string tie and cardboard backings back into the box after I open the figure. Then I play with it for awhile, have it displayed in robot mode then its back to the box. Don't be fooled :D - a lot of my movie 07 / cybertron figures have actually been opened before. You just have to go through the hassle of slowing tying all the string ties back and fitting it back in the box.
And as Gok had mentioned, Takara stuff is so much easier to open and put back into package because they don't use string ties and instead mold the plastic according to the figure's shape to cover it. Hasbro's more lazy with their insane amount of string ties.
It's quite straight-forward for Voyagers, Leaders and Special Packs because they come in a box. For deluxe figures if you wanna keep the packaging intact, it's a bit more tricky. You have to slowly run a penknife at the bottom of the packaging, then use your fingers to slowly push from the bottom to peel off the packaging from the cardboard. I have attached a pic for u to see.

Once 3 sides of the packaging is peeled off from the cardboard, you can tilt open from the bottom in an angle and pull the figure out with the inner plastic mould. This method was actually taught by Icy who's more of an MISB collector. ;) :) And I think it was someone else who passed on the method to him too. :p The same method applies for scouts and legends.
I personally don't buy a set of doubles just to open as well. I only have doubles of figures I really like. Spend the money of other TFs you don't have instead. ;) And as most of the boys said, ROTF is not a good investment for extras. I have some Movie 07 figures that even at the cheapest prices nobody wants them. :( And yeah like Paulbot said, open your TFs slowly so that you can still have your MI(S)B collection on display - looking cool :D while having a couple of figures to play with. :) Hope this helps.
In case it wasn't mentioned yet, another factor that some may consider when buying spares for MISB collection is the space you have if you would want those voluminous packagings/boxes be displayed as well. If you keep all your packagings, you know what I'm saying. ;) Otherwise, just like me, you may just keep it in storage until you find a suitable place for them.

My advice is to open them and display them as an army. Buying doubles is just a waste of money that could be spent on different Transformers. Re: packaging, for boxed toys I cut out the front and backs and toss away the rest. For deluxes I carefully run a knife around the edge of the plastic so as not to damage the card then toss away all the plastic. You keep all the good bits, space is saved and you get to play with the toy...Good enough for me. :p
Open em up mate, I have BIB stuff and some BISB, but it's all stuff that is hard to come by, anything that can be found easly, is worth opening :)

I'm one of those guys who started out as Juzmel and opened carefully to reseal if I wanted too. But I started to buy doubles of most of my toys, one for MISB display purpose, the other for play. It wasn't always that way. Originally I bought doubles b/c a toy was my favourite mold and I worreid that I'd have to chase it down the line and that that would be a massive pain.
Then through theDamned and Jaydisc, I started to have an attraction to displaying toys. So I started to buy lots of toys purely just for their displayability. I went crazy in the first movie, TFM, Classics 2.0, Animated. Some of the doubling up was warrated as I really enjoyed most of the Animated molds and Classics 2.0 had lovely packaging. But toys from TFM really really irked me as some of them were pretty average and I had spares of them! :eek:
So I've now reached a point where I continue to buy doubles of ROTF toys but if and only if I like the mold or they're show cast. Otherwise, only the 1 for me. So far that's been Preview BB, Smokescreen, Desert Attack Brawl, Breakaway and many more to come I'm sure.
But cost's a big issue. The other issue that's not to be forgotten is space. YOu've got to remember you've only got so much room. In my collection pics (see my sig) you'll see how big a room I have access to yet even now I'm struggling to find space to display everything. So there's an upper limit. Boxes take up lots of space and you've gotta be quite selective about the line you're interested in and make sure they will look good displayed.

And can someone explain to me why Hasbro and 3H just _refuse_ to give us tech specs as collectable cards?!? Takara's been doing it since G2 (although it became standardised in Beast Wars)... I don't see why Hasbro doesn't follow suit. Not even with BotCon exclusives where they just give us those oversized ones. <sigh>
In the case of 3H, they have no excuse really. Their cards are large and cumbersome and make no sense given that it's supposed to be collector orientated. How are you display such non-standard sized cards? On top of that, the back of the cards are a plain light brown/gray cardboard. I'm not sure about this year but on previous year's that's certainly the case. If it's supposed to be for colllectors make it collectable, not just an after thought. Pretty pathetic.Quote:
