FansProject's Protector Armor (Not-Rodimus)
-
That is looking Great! :D
Man, I can't keep up with all these bloody new things coming out, my G1 Collecting is slowing to a snails pace! :p
-
overall i like the design of the trailer.
-
Looks good, I can't wait to get mine.
-
I'm glad his face looks more like a G1 Robot, as opposed to the Stylised Face of City Commander. Can't wait for this guy.
-
Wondering when kup would post this one.
I think it's very cheeky of them to be doing this with a MP rodimus on the way. No matter what people say, it's playing off the rodimus prime character.
-
If I am correct though, they already planned this before we heard about MP Rodimus. Though the release of the coloured pictures does seem a little coincidental.

i remember seeing Protector back when Defender was first shown. I guess MP Rodimus was to compete against Protector and to celebrate 2010 and with all the gimmicks - damn!
-
Yeah, they've had this in the works forever. I actually think Masterpiece Rodimus is more likely to hurt their sales than help - are people really more likely to spend big dollars on a smaller unofficial product when they could just as easily spend big dollars on a better and bigger official one?
-
I'd prefer MP09 over this, but in its defence I will say that I don't think they're directly in competition. I mean, its not really Rodimus Prime is it (vehicle mode aside)? It strikes me more as a hypothetical - what if Hot Rod had trailer armour like Ultra Magnus did?
I say this because generally the FP stuff has been very true to G1 thus far, whereas Hot Rod combining with trailer isn't something that ever happened.
-
I'm sure it won't hurt either sales. They are different size classes, and I bet I won't be the only one to be buying both MP Rodimus and the Protecter upgrade. Can't really compare the 2 IMO, would like apples and oranges.
-
Yeah, I don't see these in competition. People who collect MPs will get MP Rodimus. People who collect CHUG or FP, will get Protector. People who collect by the character will get both.
As to timing, Protector has been in the works for over 1.5 years, well beyond the time anyone publicly claims to have known about MP Rodimus.

I agree, people who are unable/unwilling to get both toys will prefer the MP over the 3rd party upgrade. I know I do, the MP is the much better toy by far.
However that would only affect those who are only willing to get one toy of the character. It won't make a difference to those who want both for their MP and Classics shelves.
The FansProject release predates the announcement of MP Rodimus by a year or more so it's nothing to do with trying to cut into Hasbro's profits. However it is safe to say that the MP release will indeed cut into the Protector sales as not everyone is going to get both toys.

My Wallet laughs and says it bought both Protector and Shadow Scythe and has MP Rodimus preordered (but really, it secretly cries in a corner feeling empty inside...)
-
Looks well designed, but can't afford to get both this and MP Rodimus. :0

Could it be Hasbro's way of trying too "defend" itself from 3rd Party companies?
Would Hasbro have gone for a different MP if not for the Protector kit?

The funny thing is that these sort of things become even more unaffordable in the months/years after release.
I only started collecting 1yr ago and im having trouble getting an Ultra Magnus vs Skywarp pack for under $100US
So basically im saving myself money by buying it now? lol

I doubt it. The existence of MP Rodimus is a Japanese driven effort to celebrate Transformers: 2010 which Hasbro has agreed with or it wouldn't have gone ahead.
I don't think Protector had any bearing in the decision to make the MP.

Sad fact, barring a re-release occurs, that is probably the case man- I can feel your pain aswell. A few months ago they weren't even that pricey, since alot more loose UM's were available. Now that those have dried up, the misb sets are the only ones left and hiked up again- I'm glad I got ultra magnus 2nd/3rd hand? unexpectedly for a decent price off TallestBlue here, but damn that set is so pricey. I normally don't get used toys, but for him I had to settle.
I'm still in need of a Hasbro skywarp- and that guy is getting way too pricey for my taste- Ebay charges over 30USD- BIN is at $40USD exc shipping for a loose used one. DAMN. I think I might have to just give up on getting one until another miracle find occurs. Or just grab a couple acidstorms and learn to customize/repaint.

Agree with Kup here. Logically, it makes sense that this is a mere coincidence.

I have heard of a couple of requests for comparison between Classics and Henkei Rodimus for color differences for best armor suitability.
http://kupscigar.com/fun/hotrodcomp.JPG
As you can see, both seem to be of the same (or very close) 'red' color so either version should be suitable for the armor.

Looks like pre-orders are now up at RK
http://www.robotkingdom.com/services...FP0004&lang=us
Price seems... OK, but I'm daunted by the "three times more parts and compexity than the City Comander"
-
I think it's more the battle tank and roller. It looks like only a few parts go into turning Hot Rod into Rodimus.
Or Rodimus into Rodimus Prime. wahatevs. But don't be scared, Fansproject toys are awesome toys!
-
-
Wow! I didn't expect winnebago mode to be the strongest of the three. The gun station and 'Protector' figure are underwhelming to me. Not digging the tricep baggage.
Lovin the rod roller though. 'Sidearm' is interesting too. Sucks that the wing extenders are only really gonna work for classics rodimus.
-
Goddamn that is sexy all round. Can't wait to get my hands on this.
Looking forward to seeing what is next (after Shadow Scyther). Will it be Collector? Crossfire03? The Broadside reinterpretation? The Glacier combiner (or is that Crossfire03?).

agreed on all counts. I still haven't seen a really tight shot of the face but FP will do it justice. I really hope this will come out before Christmas (or is that wishful thinking on my part?).

Apparently Sidearm comes with Chromed wing extenders and spoiler as well

Just means you gotta buy both, which I was going to anyway. So if I don't want the wings, I will most likely sell them.

Man,
All of FansProject stuff looks so awesome, but being on a Uni student salary, I can hardly afford to buy them.
I want City Commander, Protector, Explorer, Munitioner, and the Aerial Appendage set, but have no money. :(

Classics ultra magnus is really expensive to get these days too, considering what he is.
-
Oh Hell Yeah!!! :eek::D:cool:
That, as per normal, looks like it is going to be quite the hit with FansProject customers - He looks incredibly bulky too, making the character more likeable for me :p, with great articulation and multiple facets to the kit. :D
Now... To find the money for this sucker! ;):D
-
Very impressive but I wonder if they are intentionally leaving the fingers white or that is just unique to this pre-release sample?
-
Oh yeah. this looks awesome. But is there an official release date?
-
The pics look pretty awesome, glad I have him pre-ordered already. Those who have not done so should do so now- wow as I type, the Aussie dollar is over $1 USD (mid-market).
Fansproject's releases have always delivered in awesomeness, and judging from the pics, protector looks to continue that trend. To me this is an awesome reimagining in the vein of what classics should do for characters. As a classics rodimus prime, it properly enhances the original classics mold from mediocre to excellent.

On RK it says December 2010- I think a rep said it would arrive in time for christmas- but the specific date has not yet been announced.
-
I thought it looked better in the greys and don't regret not ordering this. Nice idea and all but the result doesn't grab me.
Do you think the front of the car mode is all scuffed up as result of putting on and off the add-on kit to the robot's chest?

Classics Rodimus unfortunately has an issue in which the paint job is very easy to scratch off and that's just by regular handling or playing. That is why I bought Reprolabels for mine. While transforming it part of the paint job rubbed off and I didn't even notice it until I saw it again the next day.
I don't think the following releases of the mold have this issue.

Hmm.. I did not consider this aspect, since I've only transformed him once or twice since I got one, although it is a valid concern.
Which releases are you referring to? Henkei rodimus? Although I haven't held one in my hand, aren't the reds and (therefore assuming) the paints are the same?

he's talking about the hasbro one and the reds are different shades. also the paint isnt the red mold, its the flames.

It only applies to the orginal Classics release. Henkei is fine and I suspect the other releases to be fine too when it comes to the deco wiping off.
I am referring to the 'flame' deco on the original classics figure.
-
Wow, very nice.
I'm sure this will hit HK first and I can just grab it off the 1001 toy shops here, all of which should stock it. :D
Since I sold my Classics Rodimus, I gotta buy another Rodimus in prep for this. I'm not sure whether I should buy the Henkei one or the one that came in the three pack with Cyclonus and Galvatron.
CHUG experts, what do you think?
