Thanks for sharing those comparison pics. :) The Hasbro version doesn't look as bad as I'd thought when put side by side -- it is certainly more cartoony looking, but I believe that was the intention. I prefer the TakaraTOMY colours, but at approx. half the price of TakTOM's RRP, I'll settle for Hasbro's when it comes out. ;) The trailer also looks pretty good when closed up, but the Hasbro grey is abundantly obvious when open -- but that doesn't bother me too much as my trailer will be closed most of the time. The blue Roller is a nice touch - I like how Hasbro did that. I also like how Hasbro's added some paint apps on Spike's face, but I don't like the silver paint on where the sleeves are rolled up... what's with that??
As for being made in Vietnam -- we all new this was coming as HasTak announced ages ago that they would be moving production from China to Vietnam due to increasing labour costs in China. So that comes as no surprise. I just hope that the use of Vietnamese labour won't see a compromise in quality... I wonder if Hasbro will reduce their retail prices now that they're using cheaper labour. "Ha ha ha, don't be silly, Gok!" - oh... right. :(
^so which is the JP release and which is the Western release?
The Hasbro one has blue roller, and bright/cartoon blue trailer parts and robot parts.
JP version has grey roller, and dark blue trailer parts and robot parts.
This is the Hasbro version from BotCon.

The link's not working for me :(
It was working earlier, but the domain is timing out, probably due to a spike in demand at the moment. Keep refreshing, as it worked a second time for me just now.
Doesn't look half bad. I am interested in picking one up.
i'll pick one up , if it has long smoke stacks once it arrives here.. if not i'm gonna pass and import mp10 the short stacks on my hasbro mp01 drive me nuts
Does it come with some stickers for the inside of the trailer? It looks awfully plain.
I'm sure Reprolabels will come out with something later if it doesn't;):). I was going to buy this version anyway due to the price difference, I prefer the cartoon colours and the qulaity looks good so it's a winner for me:D
is it just me or does the Hasbro version have just a few more paint apps? the running lights on top of the cab for instance, and as Gok mentioned, eyballs for witwiliky:p
Ah yes, the top cab lights do indeed have extra paint apps. That's cool. Also, the truck windows on the Hasbro version appears to have a very slight/subtle blue tinge/hue to it... possibly another effort to make it look more like the cartoon model. Would've been cool if they made Witticky (sic) blonde and called him Buster, but I guess that kinda defeats the "toon accurate" theme of the Hasbro version (plus Buster never wore boots).
A Hasbro version of a toy looking better than the Takara release? WHAT MADNESS IS THIS?
Very impressed will be buying for sure.
I love it!! Can't wait to grab this
I can't be the only who does "not" like the look of the paint apps? Surely.
And are his eyes painted in the same lighter blue as his legs?
Takara for me...
Hmm... to me, this comparison reminds me of what a G1 Prime looks like next to a Pink-imus Prime; I think my main qualm is the choice of Blue used in the Hasbro version, it's just way too light for my tastes & I much prefer Takara's more 'Original-Toy' Blue. :o
It's kind of set me back in wanting to obtain this release again, my opinion may change though if/when I see it in person - $150 is still a pretty damn good price, even if North America will be getting it for $99. ;):)
Yeah man, that's exactly what my problem is with the toy as well...I feel that the blue is too light. Not a fan...
Personally I don't think yellow paint apps for Primes lights improve the toy at all, I think Prime looks best when they confine the use of yellow to his lower torso, too much just doesn't look good.
I think the Taktomy one still looks a little more classy than the Hasbro one, but as the Hasbro one is cheaper (and I already have Takara's original MP Prime) that's the one I will get.
LOL You people amaze me, You complain when there aren't paint apps on the Hasbro version and then complain when there are. I also don't consider the Tak/Tom colour to be blue, I would call it more a purple which does match up with the original G1 toy colours.
Purple? :\
Anyway, I complain more about the 'shade' of the color apps, not so much the lack there of on a particular area of the toy such as headlights ect. Prime Bulkhead comes to mind. I'd rather hasbro over TT.
In Prime's case, I just feel (IMO) that the shade of blue is too light for my liking.
This OP has been released on TAOBAO, RMB980(AU$148).
I personally don't think it looks better than the TakaraTOMY version -- unless you happen to prefer cartoony colours. I don't, but for approx. half the price of MP10 it's acceptable.
Having seen/handled MP10 IRL I don't think it's purple, but a dark blue like the original G1 toy. The G2 (1993 standard) toy and the reissues are more of a purple-blue, but the original is pure blue.
I agree, but they're attempting to mimick the cartoon colours which were lighter. I prefer the darker colours, but I'm not going to pay nearly double the price (plus shipping) for it. Besides, I have MP10 which already has fairly G1 accurate colours anyway. In a way, having the lighter colours is cool to me because it helps make the toy feel more distinct from MP01. He shall be "Masterpiece G2 Optimus Prime" in the Gokiverse (based on the lighter coloured variant of G2 1993 Optimus Prime ;))

Did we get confirmation that the RRP here was going to be $150 or was that just speculation?
The $150 price-tag was from TRU AUS (posted here back in May), but as with anything, can change at any time.
I therefore estimated (back then, when I also posted it on TFW), that it would likely be US$100 when released in America... and yesterday it was proved to be a correct guess.
Kinda glad I got the JP version.
Probably not worth the extra cost of importing it just for the colours though.
Either way, awesome TF and well worth getting.
I still feel it's TOO light. Even if what Lint suggests is correct and the flash is too bright, I feel it would still be too light for my liking.
I know this is just one of many screen shots of Prime from the cartoon but I don't imagine the color varying too much from the one I've posted here:
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y26...me_super-1.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y26...1343078019.jpg
I'm inclined to agree -- most cartoon-like colours err on the side of being brighter, though not quite "hurt-your-eyes-gaudy-day-glo" bright like the yellows we had on Armada Hot Shot and Universe Sunstreaker. <shudder> :o I think the colours on the TakTOM version do look better hands down... but I'm personally not prepared to pay nearly double the price for it. If the colours really bug you that much and you're willing to pay extra for nicer colours, then perhaps the TakTOM version would suit you better. :)
Atm it seems the Hasbro version is more suited for:
a) People who prefer cartoon colours and find this to be an acceptable approximation of said colours.
b) People who don't necessarily prefer the colours but are too tight-bummed to pay extra for the TakTOM version (like moi! ;))
After seeing the side by side shots, I'm thinking that maybe the hasbro release may be too light. In real life however they may appear a bit darker. However at this stage I think I probably prefer the TakTom release - the only problem with it is that I prefer to display my TFs in their box, which means that the hasbro release would be perfect for display purposes.
My solution to this is to get both :D That way I can swap the two Primes around and display the TakTom prime in the Hasbro box. It's win - win!!
Unfortunately my wallet disagrees with my plan:(. I'll be getting the hasbro release.
I wasn't sure where to put this one, but this seemes most appropriate, mods please move if not.
This link has been posted on seibertron.com. An extensive gallery of the hasbro release. Also shows the third party dr.wu figures for spike and sparkplug, but I think the shots of Optimus are pretty good.
http://www.seibertron.com/transforme...-images/25491/
Well it's main focus is the Official Hasbro Toy release so it seems perfectly suited to being here to me. ;):)
Great find with that gallery too dude, these shots make it look better but I'll still have to wait until it's in-person before making any final decisions.
Saw the extra pics from that gallery this morning and I've got to say, the more pics I see of the Hasbro version the more I'm inclined to pick one up. I don't mind the lighter shade of blue and the extra paint apps do it for me.
$150 is still pushing it a bit, might see if it's possible to acquire one from US and cross fingers the combined price including postage will still work out cheaper than TRU AUS pricetag. Worst case scenario I guess $150 isn't too bad when compared with cost of the Takara version.
Yeah, I saw these pics earlier too. I gotta say - he looks perfect! Can't wait :)
I prefer the lighter colour as I was never a fan of the darker shade of Blue/Purple (I take it the Tak/Tom was meaning to be close to the original G1 toy colours). I say blue/Purple because I was trying to refurbish an old G1 Prime and there wasn't any Blue colour that came close to matching, The closest thing I could find was a shade of Purple.
I think the lighter blue looks ok. I don't like the grey of the thighs and trailer though....
Looks SA-WEET! The lighter blue looks less washed out in these pics which should alleviate some concerns. However the plastic colour of the energon axe looks dissapointing but once again, could easily be the camera flash in play.
the other thing to keep in mind is that most of us is only going to have one or the other, as such the lighter blue probably won't seem as out of place as it does when standing beside the takara version.
