Jesus Christ, Castle Grayskullman is friggin' TERRIFYING.
I imagine hordes of those things pouring out of castle grayskull, screaming like Banshees and slaughtering Skeletor's minions as an absolute last defense.
*shudder.*
MOTUC 'reveals' as they happen....
http://www.toyark.com/news/san-diego...nel-live-6051/
September - Mekaneck, Dragon Blaster Skeletor and the Snake Men two-pack.
October - Frosta, Rattlor (he still rattles!) and... some stickers, the new Weapons Pak and... um... Cy-Chop?
November - Dekker, Filmation King Randor and the aforementioned Castle Grayskullman.
December - Mosquitor, Procrustus (Hell yeah!), Temple of Darkness Sorceress and lame Granamyr.
The 2013 prices go up to $25 for a subscriber and $27 for pick and mixers.
January - Netossa and Ram Man (looking fantastically vintage, and extra-wide for $30).
February - Jitsu.
March - Fang Man. And King He-Man for the subcription figure (surprisingly fricking cool), who comes with a Skeletor origin minicomic and map of Subternia.
The second quarter we have the brilliant Fighting Foe-Men... Dittstoryer, Shield Maiden Sherrlyn and Dawg-O-Tor - all based on vintage vehicles and their pilots - the model Roton pilot is one I've wanted since I was a kid.
We vote for the November figure - white astronaut Marlena, Evil Lyn in a cloak, Geldor, Minicomic Trap Jaw, Illumina, Songster, Camo Kahn or the demon from Masks Of Power.
The travelling convention exclusive is Strobo (squeee!) with Zodak's maskless head.
Okay, so the big highlights for me are Strobo, the Roton and Attak Trak pilots, Temple of Darkness Sorceress and Procrustus - toys I've always wanted which never existed. In terms of remakes, Ram Man is extremely well-done and Rattlor and Mekaneck are both fabulous. King He-Man is a strong sub exclusive. Cy-Chop, Dekker and Granamyr are the low points for me. Rating the new 'reveals' from best to worst, I'd say:
Strobo - 10
Fighting Foe Men (Dittstoryer, Shield Maiden Sherrlyn and Dawg-O-Tor) - 9.5
Procrustus - 9
King He-Man - 8.5
Ram Man - 8
Rattlor - 7.5
Jitsu - 7
Castle Grayskullman - 6
Netossa - 5
Mosquitor - 4
Eternos Palace King Randor - 3
Fang Man - 2
Granamyr - 1 (I just found out that he's not part of the subscription. Hurray!)
Cy-Chop - 0.5
Dekker - 0
For people who aren't familiar with the 'Fighting Foe Men', they're from the boxart of the Monogram MOTU kits, which were quite common at Aussie model shops back in the day:

The line up isn't bad but I am not terribly impressed to go through the nightmare that is the sub again.
Frosta - Looks good, they improved the face from the prototype.
Rattlor - On the fence, will probably pass unless a new head or chest harness is added.
Higuchi's figure - Looks ok but not interested.
Dekker - Awesome! More 200x unique characters please!
Randor - Don't care, would not buy it but I am stuck with it.
Castle Grayskullman - Interesting and impressive.
Mosquitor - Lame! He should of had more 200x features. Plus the whole 'Pixel Dan & Scott Bromance' killed it for me.
Procustus - Don't know much about this character since I have not read the DC comic but I really do like the concept of him as an Eternian God.
Granamyr - Super lame.
Netossa - Don't know much about her but they should have gone with one of the more prominent PoP characters like the ever neglected Glimmer. At least she is not as obscure as the Pointless sisters and does add to the almost non-existing Great Rebellion numbers.
Ram-Man - Not bad, certainly an interesting sculpt. He looks like a giant Dwarf but don't like the closed eyes.
Jitsu - Looks really good.
Fang Man - Don't care for goofy Filmation characters.
Fighting Foe Men - Not interested.
Strobo - Not interested.
King He-Man - Looks good but not interested enough to get a sub for it.
Overall, some hits and some misses for me. 2012 had a stronger line up but even so, I got stuck with super poor customer service, Matty mistakes and a few lame figures that I wouldn't have bought otherwise.
2013 seems good enough to Cherry Pick but certainly not good enough to get a sub. I am not impressed by the exclusive to go the extra mile like last year.
Procrustus was from the minicomic The Magic Stealer, that came with Mekaneck and 'The Original' Skeletor. He is awesome - pretty much Atlas to He-Man's Hercules:

Although the comic's much funnier in Spanish:

¡UUGGGG! :p
Lol... was that a "Night of the Creeps" reference? ;)
My thoughts...
I love Rattlor, Ram Man & Procrustus! But then, they've always been figures I wanted in this line!
On the fence about Mosquitor and Jitsu. The rest are very meh!
I'll admit... these are pretty interesting!
This and the fact that Subbies buy before DOS buyers (so, stock could be sold out) will make me a far more picky cherry picker! Sub or die... thanks Scott... keep on pushing customers away!
Right on! They're both trying way to hard and it's become sickening. Not sure if I trust Dan's reviews to be unbiased anymore!! God, even Scott was wearing one of Dan's "comparison time" shirts.
That's if there are figures available online of course... after the Subbies become Scalp-ors! Not to mention the whole new "won't refund lost items" for int customers scheme they're implementing.
They have literally killed the line for International customers with this. With the current pricing and ever decreasing quality and lack of QC, it was already questionable if collecting MOTUC was worth it.
Now that they have increased the price by $10 making each figure $40 with continuing to deteriorate material quality and QC, it is now a rip off if you are an International customer. On top of that, they spit in our faces by allowing subbers to 'pick the loot' before sales time making sure that the Cherry Pickers have almost no chance of getting the higher demand figures.
Looks like that's that for me and MOTUC. I may get one or two figures next year (assuming they don't get looted by the subbers) and that would be it.
Scott is literally the worse thing that has ever happened to MOTU and is sad to see how many people mindlessly support and apologize for him (and Mattel) despite so much abuse.
I haven't bought a MOTUC since i was boned over by not receiving Bubble Power She-Ra & Swiftwind... Tho i like Jitsu and Ram Man of this bunch, i doubt i can bring myself to buy them. The prices are becoming ludicrous considering most of them are still running off existing tooling. The new TMNT classic figures have more articulation and are almost half the price from a smaller company!
Ram-man looks good. But I don't think I wanna pay that much for him. I was a bit annoyed with the QC on my Photog and my Bubble She-ra and Swifty got lost with Kurdts. Since they dont seem to want o/s money anymore, I am gonna keep it.
More for other toys, like TMNT and FOC!:D
Plus I don't know most of those characters slated for release... All I recognised, were Fisto, Frosta, king Randor (Cool puffy sleeves though), Mosquiotor, Ram man and some black haired he-man ( ? ). All the rest no idea...
And Pixel Dan, yeh. When has he properly criticised a MOTUC figure? He just seems to love any old trash that they bust out. Obviously has been corrupted by all that free Plastic crack he's been given.
has anyone been reading the DC Digital Comic at all?
2 Issues so far
Issue #1 - The Lost Knight
Issue #2 - Man-At-Arms
I have. My 'review' of issue 1 was here.
Issue 2 was really a short story about magic versus technology, which is quite appropriate for the MOTUniverse. The portrayal of the Sorceress was clearly written and illustrated by geeky men fantasising. It was pretty much "ooh... Duncan's coming over - I'll just unzip my clothes down to my crotch and beg him to let me 'heal' him." But Man-At-Arms was too noble to fall for the lusty temptress. This time.
Also, why didn't he fly a Wind Raider? It's a MOTU and MOTUC vehicle with a winch - exactly what was needed. Way too much genericness in this issue rather than Masters imagery.
Man, I just have to vent about the Org. That place is a shambles. Infractions are handed out willy nilly to people who are snarky, or just post a link to something in a comment (yes, really!!)... but it's perfectly fine to be an utter pr!ck, flame people, and insult lifestyle choices. I can't, for the life of me, see any consistency from the Mods... there seem to be conflicting rules and standards. It's a mess!
Nothing's happened to me personally, but I just had to post something. I was reading a few threads just now, and the way people behave on there to one another is disgraceful. I would actively encourage people NOT to join that forum - it's a terrible experience!
The Org has deteriorated into something I don't like and can be a bit shameful. They forced Emiliano out just because he spoke his mind against Mattel practices. The whole place now works as a weird totalitarian state in which freedom of expression is managed and control.
Here, read all about it:
http://santalux.blogspot.com.au/2012...sy-to-say.html
Yeah it's pretty bad what they did to Emiliano and I think that it was motivated by Mattel (Scott) as the admin and mods of the Org are just tools:

I know that I should be saying 'Mattel' instead of Scott but we all know how his ego works and how he runs the whole show when it comes to MOTU.
It's fascinating!
I'm so over Scott and his BS. I don't have any time for him anymore (not that I've had much in the past 2 years anyway), but I simply don't believe a goddam word he says. I agree with you Kup - he's the worst thing that's ever happened to MOTU, and he's made me start to question even collecting the classic line anymore. I'll pick up a couple next year, but I'm close to done now. It amazes me how many people share these sentiments... the general feeling toward Scott and the Org on many forums and facebook is overwhelmingly negative!
Wow... Scott must be desperate!
And through fear we shall govern!
Where do they get this "high end" crap? For a line that is exclusively dependent on the re-use of parts and cheapening out on paint jobs and accessories, it sure doesn't seem very high end to me. You can get better quality figures from other companies that are better value with unique sculpts and superior paint apps.
They are just trying to profit at the expense of consumers and Scott is a selfish SOB who exploits his position for personal reasons without any thought to customers.
I think that's the death knell of MOTUC. Scott/Mattel have managed to kill the line through sheer greed and stupidity unless the masses don't mind being exploited and abused for another year.
Finally finished fixing up my Stinkor so that is closer to what the 4H intended:

It was a lot harder than I thought as I kept ruining the paint while trying to re-assemble the arm! It is strongly suggested that you only paint it once the arms are in place although this limits some access and risks of a mishap increases.
'High end' made me laugh :D
This is hilarious and disturbing, from Masque (Daniel Benedict, who invented Castle Grayskullman.)
It makes... slightly more sense with CG's bio:
Castle Grayskullman - Heroic Embodiment of Castle Grayskull
Real Name: Not Applicable
During the Second Ultimate Battleground, Hordak and King Hsss' grand army pressed in against the allied heroes of Eternia. In the darkest moment of battle, all hope seemed lost as many heroes fell, including Snake Man-At-Arms and Stratos. Reaching out through the Orb of Power, hidden deep inside Castle Grayskull, He-Man and the new Sorceress used an unrepeatable spell to call upon the Power of Grayskull and infuse life into the very spirit of the castle itself. Rising from the castle's hidden Chamber of Defense, Castle Grayskullman marched into battle, swinging his dual swords of power, helping to turn the tide.
So... the implication is that 'Cherry pickers' won't actually get a chance to pick any cherries unless they sell enough subscriptions.

Once again more strong arming to get us to sub, which i flat out refuse to do.
I preorder from BBTS. It's not cheaper, but it's a standardised price as opposed to Ebay and I know shipping is fast and have never had a problem getting them here.
I love these figures, they are the cornerstone of my collection and I have an entire room dedicated to display them. I bought my two subs and I am even contemplating a third but this line has been managed so poorly that it isn't funny any more.
A few months ago I would have called myself a matty apologist but looking at the big picture I can see just how much TG has bungled his way through this far.
DCUC and MOTUC were held afloat by their respective fandoms and the sculptors/designers. The only thing that Scott can get credit for is bullshitting his way past upper management to show he is the mastermind of the success of the brand. I look at it no differently as the way he has bullshitted the fandom who have supported this line.
There is no, he is a fan first and foremost. That is a load of crap. He is an employee of Mattel first and foremost and one with a huge superiority complex.
Earlier this year, he stated that he is pushing for a natural progression of the mythos which would now focus on the King He-Man era, the same era that features his Gary Stu character. The man has a God complex. For every good he has done he has done just as much bad.
:End Rant:
This was posted on fb, but I reckon it's worth sharing...
Killin teh lein
Vertigoink is almost as much of a knob as Toyguru. He continually claimed that Castle Grayskullman was plagiarised and specifically went out of his way to be responsible for ensuring that that the guy who created Gangstor was disqualified: http://forums.mattycollector.com/eve...667#3241056667
He-Man.org is absolutely moronic at the moment - the entire site is just people giving their idiotic opinions on how to 'safe teh lein!' Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that Toyguru is just trying to sell subscriptions with the panic he's creating, so they should all either shut up and buy a subscription or just wait patiently for two weeks when we'll find out that 'teh lein' is absolutely fine and go about their cherry picking.
Robzy and I have started a blog, Misspent Adulthood and I have just completed my first post; Sucker Punch! - A MOTUC photo story

Battered Wife Syndrome:
Additionally, repeated cycles of violence and reconciliation can result in the following beliefs and attitudes:
The abused thinks that the violence was his or her fault - It's not Scott's fault, it's ours for not buying enough subs!
The abused has an inability to place the responsibility for the violence elsewhere. - It's our fault, always. We should buy more subs and Scott is not threatening us, he is being sincere.
The abused fears for his/her life and/or the lives of his/her children (if present). - We better do as Scott says or they will kill the line! Buy more subs everyone!
The abused has an irrational belief that the abuser is omnipresent and omniscient - While I didn't always agree with his decisions, Scott's efforts towards the line has always been tremendous and he eventually ended up with a pretty nice work.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battered_person_syndrome
Yeah I know :) Still, no one's as bad as Scott... well, maybe Michael Bay!
The Org has always been moronic... it's just on overload at the moment. Still, it's fun to see the sh!t stirrers on there and the melodramatic responses they get. :D
lol I just had my post deleted by the opinion police at the org. I will wait for the eventual PM and 'Point penalty'. After all that's happened, I don't really give a damn if I get booted.

If so, that's outrageous.
