I know you can get like flesh color and transparent earings that just sit in the hole to prevent it from closing. They arent flashy or stylish but their really meant to prevent the hole from closing up and not being seen. Maybe ask at your local piercing store?

If you want to pierce then pierce it and put a band aid over it when your at school until its healed enough to take the stud out.

The reasons they do it is purely up to them, like to follow a crowd/trend, to look pretty with sparkly jewellery, to blatantly show off their wealth, or to attract a certain gender - it's their choice and they don't need to say why they are doing it.
I didn't say that guys with ear piercings is silly, I said that this topic is silly.

I've had a earing in for 17 years and I can take it out and after 2 days the hole can start to close up, so there's no getting around that problem.maybe just leave it until you finish school.
