How's the quality of this 2-pack in comparison to their original Classics (Rodimus) and Universe (Cyclonus) releases? Considering the apparent shift in the production methods and materials due to increase in costs I assume the quality might be below par?

Compared to their original releases, the BiS pack redecoes are cheap and nasty.

The quality of the plastics and paint definitely show cost cutting measures.

    Pros (+) and Cons (-):

+ Both toys feature more cartoon-like colours which may appeal to you if you have such a preference
    - BiS Rodimus' lack of clear windows really sucks
+ The colours on Cyclonus are more consistent whereas Universe Cyclonus suffers from mismatching greys on the thighs.
    + Nightstick's colours are a definite improvement.
    - Cyclonus' colours are less toy-accurate (and thus less accurate to his comic colours and the way he was coloured in The Rebirth as a Targetmaster)
+ Comes with the Matrix - same as the one that came with New Year Convoy, only a little bit shinier.
    - The Matrix isn't 'compatible' with Hot Rod or Cyclonus. Unlike previous versions it doesn't come with a chain that can be used to sling over someone's neck (e.g. Universe/Henkei Galvatron).
+ Comes with a free bonus comic book!
    - The comic book isn't very good. Boo's art doesn't suit G1 IMO and I can't believe Furman wrote it... (T_T)

IMO this set may be worth picking up if:
    * It's on sale
    * You don't already own previous versions of the moulds of the toys and/or the Matrix

I wouldn't recommend buying it at full price.

    Here are some comparison photos:

    Classics Rodimus (L) & BiS Rodimus (R)

    Universe Cyclonus (L) & BiS Cyclonus (R)

    Universe Nightstick (L) & BiS Nightstick (R)

    New Year Convoy's Matrix (L) & BiS Matrix (R)

Great revue Gok, I have the Bis pack now, still in box just waiting for the appropriate time to unbox. apparently the matrix fits in g1 prime? or so I hear.

I kind of agree with you on the colours, I like the uniformity of the Bis cyclonus but I really like the darker colours on the earlier cyclonus. Though you can't see through the window on hot rod I do like the more tv accurate paint job.
pros and cons, glad I got it cheap, also thinking about a second set to have an armada of cycloni, first army I've ever considered building.

I've purchased quite a few of them (since they're now $25) not for Cyclonus or Rodimus, more for Nightstick - Targetmasters for everyone!

Yeah it does. The previous versions of this Matrix could also be placed around a person or Transformer's neck because they came with a chain that could clip onto it - hence those two holes. New Year Convoy came with a big chain that could fit around a person's neck, Galvatron II's Matrix came with a little chain that could fit around a Transformer's neck.

    Like so...

But the BiS Matrix doesn't come with any chain. Though you should be able to purchase one from a jewellery store I suppose... but of course, that's an additional purchase whereas the previous versions of the Matrix had the chains included.

    "Chains and batteries sold separately."

Saw this review of the BiS Cyclonus today and I don't see how anyone can say that the Generations Universe one is colored to be more G1 toy accurate than the BiS one. The Generations Universe one is quite the monstrosity:

Whoops. Where I wrote Generations, I of course meant Universe.

While the grey on the Universe one is a bit bland, I do like the red highlights, I think they work really well in vehicle mode.

the BiS version is a little bit samey and washed out, though I do like the fact that there is no basic grey.

I'm yet to decide which is my primary favorite.
