My childhood trailer is a mess. No door hinges, yellowed, broken tabs, missing roller etc. Interestingly I allowed my 5 year old nephew to play (supervised) with encore prime and the trailer door was pulled off around half a dozen times. No breakages but I eventually just swapped in the vintage one instead.
I loved playing with my G1 Prime's trailer!! It was the default Autobot base for ages until I got the S.T.A.R.S. base! But I've always been one to try to take good care of my toys... only one of the door hinges broke, but a piece of blu-tack kept that in place. It just meant that I had to be careful when opening and closing the door, but once it was fully opened or closed it stayed in place.
Of course, my original childhood 1984 Optimus Prime was stolen.*sigh*

What about storing the trailer - does anyone leave Roller out of the launcher? I've heard of people doing this as its less strain on the spring mechanism.

Never thought of that. I always stored Roller in trailer with the launcher cocked. Of course, Roller got lost in '88 during a house move.Mind you the original G1 Prime trailer's launcher was never terribly powerful to begin with, I remember playing with it shortly after opening the toy (and applying all those stickers of course) -- it would pretty much launch Roller to the end of the ramp. It's not like the reissues which shoot Roller out and let him fly!
I don't have an original G1 Prime trailer any more - all of my trailers are reissues. Both are cocked with Rollers in place (one's in trailer mode, the other's in combat deck mode). My JafCon 9 Convoy's trailer's launcher is also cocked even though it's in upright Repair Bay mode... I just don't like the look of it sticking out. But considering how darn powerful the reissue launchers are, I'm not in fear of the springs weakening any time soon. But I had my original childhood trailer from 1985-2005 (*sigh* stolen on the 20th year of my owning it) and the launcher was never noticeably weaker than the day I first had it. <shrug>
