Default Help Wanted - Converting DVD to AVI

Can anyone recommend a program they use (freeware) to convert DVD files to a single AVI file?

I have conversion software to convert DVD VOB files, but because there are more than one for any given DVD, I have no way of combining them because my program doesn't have this feature.

    Cheers!

DVDShrink doesn't have DVD-to-AVI (or any other video format) capability.

Avidemux - look this program up on Youtube, it's freeware and I've used it before to convert DVD to AVI in conjuction with other small programs and plug-ins. It works though but takes quite long, like a couple of hours to convert one movie.

Are you interested in converting protected DVDs? Because I've wanted to leigitimately back mine up or format shift but most tools, including a few mentioned above, will not do that.

Unless you buy a program like AnyDVD by Slysoft, that can lift the copyright so that you can backup your DVDs.
