custom Transformers Animated Gears

My seven-year-old didn't want Sentinel Prime any more after his younger brother ripped the figure's ears off, so I swapped for it.

To my eyes the vehicle mode is a good likeness for Gears but something about the robot mode strikes me as off. The head mold is way off but I don't think I could remold it into G1 Gears' head. I don't think the colour I used on the head is the best choice, but in the original colours it looked too much like Sentinel. Maybe I'll do it red..... Any suggestions would be welcome.

For the moment I think I will leave this in vehicle mode. It suffers from exposed head syndrome, but eh.

Go with a red head. It will look more like G1 Gears and will make the head less noticeable in vehicle mode (which looks really good).

Thanks for the comments... would you believe I painted the head red before reading them though? Great minds and all that...

here's a WIP shot. Soon as I had put the first coat on I felt much happier about it. It's still wet in the pic, which is why it's a bit shinier.
