But QC aside, the grey faced hasbro Rodimus just doesn't look good at all IMO.
With you on that. Hasbro Rodimus' face is jsut fugly. I can tolerate it b/c of price but it is as you say inferior. Takara did stuff up on the first run however and although they fixed it, it doesn't change that MP-09 is bettter than Hasbro Rodimus. Hasbro also does not have trailer which while you barely use is a nice touch and always nice to have. I fight myself over the question of the trailer and for G1 at least, I think it's important unless u do creative stuff like FP or Maketoys with the trailer.

In terms of rest of MPs

    MP1 > Hasbro
MP2 - no comparison but lovely repaint
    MP3 < Hasbro; b/c Hasbro released a non-green version - will reverse with MP11 however.
MP4 - no comparison but easily superior choice to MP-01
    MP5 - no comparison
MP6 > Takara, the yellow eyes and cheaper paints just don't cut it.
    MP7 - no comparison
MP8 < Hasbro subjective on which your a fan of but I'd say Hasbro's had more gimmicks so it wins but my personal preference is MP8 with the cartoon which is what most of us really grew up with and made us like the line
MP9 > Hasbro; minus the problems fixed up in the remod
    MP10 > ?

    So of 5 comparable points
    Hasbro: 2
    Takara: 3

But with one reversing it's going to be

    Takara 4 > Hasbro 1.

So I would argue Takara is still a better bet. It's also more likely to have QC problems ahead of Hasbro b/c it generally (unlike other lines) releases MPs first.

I love my MP-10 way more than MP-01 BUT first transform of my MP-10 broke a plastic hinge on his leg and I'm having major trouble trying to repair it. I'm on holidays at the moment but when I get back I'll be putting pics up in order to get ideas on how to fix the damage. I'd love to know if anyone else has had any problems with their MP-10's

How does having a dark gray face make Hasbro MP Rodimus inherently "inferior"? It's a cosmetic change and intentionally done so to make the toy more G1 toy accurate. If you prefer cartoon likeness, then sure, I can see how TOMY's MP Rodimus would hold more appeal -- but for people who prefer toy accuracy, Hasbro MP Rodimus holds greater appeal.

I would agree that the lack of paint apps on the interior of Hasbro Roddie's driving compartment and a few other places like the waist plate and rear "thrusters" are inferior to TOMY's because they just lack as much different colours (typically Hasbro cheaped out and gave the toy less paints)... but I don't agree that having a more toy-accurate colour scheme makes the toy any better or worse than TOMY's. Whether you prefer TOMY or Hasbro MP Roddie's colours depends on your preference for show or toy accurate colours - so it's completely subjective and based on people's personal bias.

Also... remember when Takara's MP Starscream first came out? People were up in arms about that toy and people said that was Takara's first cop out of a MP toy from Takara. HasTak have since improved that mould with subsequent uses of it - primarily with the use of better plastic, but they haven't been able to hide a lot of the drawbacks of its design. MP Starscream copped a LOT of criticism when it first came out - with people derisively calling it "Greenscream." I distinctly remember this toy being the first Takara MP that copped widespread criticism from fans.

I haven't had any problems to date. Very solid.

Though I did have troubles trying to lock the two feet together. Not sure if I'm missing anything but they won't clip nicely and unhinge

WoooOOoo got MP10 in ze mail on Monday! Won't be opening it just yet - though all of the positive talk about his sheer awesomeness is tempting me big time.

In regards to MP Rodimus - I walked past a bucketload of sale-priced Hasbro's at TRU a few weeks back and just had to give it a miss. $60 is an absolute bargain, but it just looked and felt so cheap and tacky whilst in my hands.

Kudos to Hasbro for giving us something local, but man it's hard to disagree with willo and STL.

"Inferior" was probably too harsh a description. "Less polished" is probably more appropriate.

Takara's versions are usually more polished - e.g. Sharper teeth and claws on Grimlock. But whether or not it is worth the price difference will depend largely on whether the purchaser is a big fan of the character.

For me personally, I'm a bit of a sucker for Optimus Primes and totally snapped up MP10 without thinking twice when the opportunity presented itself. In fact, I like MP10 so much I'll quite likely pick up the Hasbro version as well so I can have something a bit cheaper to play/transform around with. and that is quite unusual because I usually don't buy figures of the same mold.

Which hinge is this? Is it the front shin flaps containing the grey shin vents?

I transformed MP10 for the first time yesterday and it took me quite a while cuz I didn't want to scratch the paint. The hinges of the leg flaps on my MP10 were also quite tight and I had to really nurse the flaps apart gently. But once I got the flaps to flip, they began to loosen up nicely and move much easier.

Which retailer did you purchase from? If it's a factory error you may be able to get a replacement part... depending.

Please don't say Robot Kingdom or eBay...
Which brings us to where we are today...

I am not sure if the Hasbro gray face is intended to be for toy accuracy. The gray in the G1 toy is very light while the Hasbro MP is much darker. I would say that as far as the face is concerned, the Takara-Tomy release is actually closer in color to the toy than the Hasbro version. The only thing that makes the Hasbro release more toy accurate are the tampograph decals.

However on the point that color schemes are subjective and not a true indication of construction or material quality, I totally agree.

It's hard to describe exactly without him in hand (I'm in coffs harbor on holiday and live in ballarat so he's 16hours away driving) but it's the hinges attached to his lower leg/calf and has the chrome fuel tank on it too. I purchased him from BBTS so I'll email them and see what they say. I've purchased a large amount from them and currently have some more in my pile of loot, so hopefully they'll look after me.
