Piecemeal is always very expensive. If you don't mind what release you get, the reissues are the way to go.
If you want vintage only, then piecemeal is the way but don't expect to pay cheap or for it to be a smooth ride.

Yeah, I'd recommend just getting the reissue.The Predaking reissue is very nicely done too - virtually identical to the original and doesn't suffer from any QA issues like say Encore Bruticus and Devastator (the difference between Takara and TakaraTOMY?).
Can't speak for the 2010 "gold" reissue though - but if you're after a G1-accurate reissue then go for the original 2004 set. The Preds are all die-cast metal too!

im trying to stay away from buying a re-issue as all of my figures are original g1
so patience will be my best friend i guess...
