New Masterpiece MP12

Glad for an unexpected character but at the same time my collection just feels incomplete without a Galvatron dammit! It'd be interesting if they did the MP Autobot cars in a smaller scale closer to Binaltech for scale - would have to assume they'd be cheaper that way as well - but i won't have any problem if he stands shoulder to shoulder with Hot Rod.

I would have preferred a Galvatron and Shockwave without a doubt. I am not against another character like Sideswipe being made into an MP but he would not have been within my first 5 choices or preferences.

If I had to guess then I would think it would be 1/18th scale. Big enough bot height for a masterpiece and bigger than 1/24 alts/binaltechs. Also same scale as common diecast autos. I'd prefer 1/24 but really that would be too small for the masterpiece line.

While I'm not disappointed with Sideswipe and damn thankful for a completely new mould (and also not a re-do of already done characters), I gotta agree here. There was a "sort of" trend being followed at one stage.

Prime/Megatron. Seekers. Grimlock/Hot Rod/Rodimus. The next logical MP sure as hell sounded to me like it was going to be Galvatron. Sideswipe just doesn't fit in anywhere with the current line and doesn't really have anyone to be displayed with properly...

I'm just as surprised that Prowl or Ironhide didn't get the MP treatment before him but I'm not complaining. I guess it's his cult following over name recognition and repaint potential?

My guess is that someone in the design house had engineereed a pretty damn good MP Sideswipe which is why it's been put into production over other potential candidates who are more popular. Something like Ironhide would be more challenging to create without looking 'too' gappy though that didn't really stop them with Hot Rod.

Very much wishful thinking on my part but I would love a die-cast transforming Lambo. Die cast and motor vehicles belong together!

What a sorry state of affairs. We're 4 pages in and all we can talk about are possible repaints. What has Hasbro done to us?!

Depends on the repaint. Sideswipe repainted/retooled as Red Alert, Deep Cover, Tigertracks and Clampdown would definitely work because those G1 toys are all repaints/retools of G1 Sideswipe anyway (it's the same as say repainting MP Starscream into Skywarp and Thundercracker - simple but it works).

I would be greatly disappointed if they repainted it as Sunstreaker or Breakdown or anything that wasn't based on a Sideswipe repaint. That sort of thing might fly for a Deluxe figure, but I wouldn't like to see it for Masterpiece.

You guys don't need a new mold for an MP Prowl, they'll just repaint Sideswipe. RID Prowl was a Lamborghini and a cop car.

Yeah but remember that Masterpiece is based on G1, and G1 Prowl was a Datsun Fairlady Z (280ZX) police car.

My only complaint is that it is not Prowl. Other than that I am pretty damm happy about this new MP.

Hopefully if MP Sideswipe sells well it might prompt TakaraTOMY to make more Autobot cars and other 'new' characters (i.e. not another Convoy or Seeker) in the future!

In terms of size, I'd like to see them keep it within Masterpiece size. If I want something in scale with Binaltech I'll play with my Binaltechs!

Given the size of the latest MP's Grimlock, OP and Starscream MP size for Sideswipe should only be a head or so taller than a Binaltech.

Anyway It will be interesting to see how this comes out, how will it compare to other MP's Binaltechs and Alternity's. Too soon to say. I will get excited later if required.

I'm happy with this one, as it's been said, it's unexpected.
I'm getting ready to sell mp-04-05-02 cause of the size difference. I'm guessing they might want to re-make mp-05 smaller to fit in with the rest. Good luck getting that through customs

I know there are too many bumblebee's but if they could maybe make them half price and keep them in scale sort of, half-size. They could release twin packs, bb and cliffjumper (hubcap and bumper too) and the rest of the minibots.

They could do all the combiners, Breakdown 1st if you like.

Oh i forgot prowl and jazz. Jazz yes. Prowl? ....the datsun 280 has not aged well, but you still get bluestreak, smokescreen and silverstreak from that mold... tough one. if they could modernize the body a bit, but then it's not g1.. .....I'd deal with it

Same with ironhide/ratchet, but really, it's a van...fatten it up, mags, lower it, it could look alright.

then Inferno, Grapple and you might be able to squeeze Hotspot out too

First, Hot Rod, then Sideswipe. I hope MP wedge cars never end.

As for licensing, TOMY has got Lamborghini licensing in the past, so I don't see why getting it for TFs is an issue.
