If you have read any of the Japanese comics, let us know about them, or have a refresher read.

Are they worth buying after all this time, and what is good or bad about them.

Are there any specific issues or stories you'd recommend to others?

How do they compare to the current era of Transformers comics?

I'm interested to know this, as I am contemplating reading various Japanese exclusive comics. Anyone got a good opinion about them?

Not particularly. The stories are very basic and aimed at a very young audience. On the plus side there's some really incredibly top notch artwork, and sometimes you get to see characters that never made any canonical appearance in other 80s comics, cartoons, books etc., e.g. Hubcap, the Omnibots etc.

Storywise they're pretty rubbish. Artistically they still hold up quite well.

I bought that thick omnibus collection that came out a few years ago. Can't read a word and never bothered trying to understand the story, but some of the nicely detailed G1 art is great.

Same as Paulbot - I have that volume in my bookshelf - should have another 'read' of it. I love the bit where the Dinoforce come home to all their dinokids.
