I've got both and yeah, they are worth $20. They are a good size and take a while to get through, though don't have a lot of re-read value. The first one goes into a lot of detail on all the main characters from the first two seasons. The second one does the season 3 characters as well as giving a little bio for every single bot that showed up in a crowd scene on Cybertron (Pipes, Huffer, Cosmos, Tracks etc etc). There are some funny one pagers too, like the send up of a womans magazine with Black Arachnia on the cover and various associated tips and interviews with other fembots. And of course there are episode guides, artist and writer interviews etc.

The Book Depository was out of the second book for a while and the IDW site was charging $50 for it!!! Def not worth that!

If you are a fan of Animated you will LOVE these. I have both volumes and they are an invaluable resource. Pretty sure there's a review of them on the boards somewhere (just use the 'search' function).

^Agree. They're great books for fans of TF Animated. Also helps to flesh out the Animated universe and give you glimpse of what could have been. But you know what'd be even better for Animated fans? Season 3 on DVD.

    Fixed.

Be careful with getting volume two, though. I wasn't expecting so much information about what could have been post season 3, and it made me very sad.:P

That's actually an interesting point you raise Gouki - if we had the choice between season 3 on DVD, or a season 4 with more toys, what would people choose.

I think if we were to get the cancelled Megatron triple-changer, I could be persuaded to vote for a season 4

I'd go for the toys as well. I want that Hot Shot! and Strika.

Oh it makes me depressed to think what could have been.

I'll put in avote for the almanac's both being worth $20ish a pop. I love mine and am constantly re-reading them. Even considering paying the $11 or so to get them digitally on my ipad through comixology, just to have them to read on the fly.

The detail, information and facts are all great, but the "in character" sections of the second volume are the icing on the cake for me.

I want Season 3 on DVD because:
    (a) It currently does NOT exist. I couldn't care less whether it's released on HD or not - I just want it! And likewise I'll worry about Season 4 after I have Season 3 in my hands!
    (b) It's a 'product' that basically already exists -- i.e. the episodes have already been made. They just need to be released on DVD. It requires very little effort and expense, unlike say trying to make a fourth season.

It's also a more viable or likely option for Hasbro. Season 4 is improbable as Animated is something that Hasbro walked away from a few years ago and don't seem likely to back to.
