I like this guy. Great robot mode, although I think Hasbro has wised up and is now making show characters "toy accurate" rather than having to worry about making toys "show accurate". I'm not much of a player these days… just a displayer, so don't care too much about truck mode. It's my first of the mold (I have 1st Ed Prime), and the transformation is fun enough. I don't really understand the wings / jetpack, but suspect the show will show us soon enough (I just finished ep07).
I think if you display your Prime / BH Autobots in robot mode, this toy is the best choice.
A great figure. Overall a clever re-use of the powerizer Optimus mold. This is my first toy of this mold as well and it's much better than I thought. Transformation is simple but fun. The supporting piece in the chest rotating down is a stroke of brilliance, making the whole transformation work. And it always fascinates me that the designers can come up with completely different transformations for the same size class charcaters with same modes.
Truck mode:
One of the reasons why I didn't like the powerizer mold is that the proportion of cab is not quite right. The nose is a bit too short. But it's still a solid truck and I like that it's a slightly different truck compared with FE Prime.
The window area is half red to form the chest piece in 'bot mode, wish they had a seperate red piece to cover the window. Also wish they'd come up with a backpack that transforms like the truck bed on the show. I do quite like the jet pack though.
/eidt/ Oh, and the show model doesn't have the smokestacks either, so I'm fine with the toy not having them (but how the truck's exhaust system works is beyond me)
Robot mode:
It wins in the show accuracy catagory. As jaydisc pointed out it might be "toy accuracy" on the show though. The head sculpt is spot on (forgot to do a comparsion of the mugshots..) down to the facial expression. The giant shell-former backpack isn't quite as distracting as it was on powerizer Prime, partly thanks to the giant shoulder pads.
Personally I quite like the bright blue plastic but I can see this might throw some people off. Paint apps are mostly there where needed.
Articulation is okay. For a hammer wielding character this mold could really use a wrist swivel. And the neck ball is limited to only rotation which takes away much personality in dynamic poses.
It's good that they kept the Micron ports on the forearms. Jet pack fits very snugly on the back and it looks great with wings deployed and U.M. all armored up. Forge of Solus is quit disappointing imo, being two small and not painted orange. But looks alright when Magnus is holding it.
Overall: best BH voyager to date imo. AND he's awesome on the show. Got it at 20% off last weekend from TRU but he's worth the full retail.
I just saw this figure for the first time today on the shelves. Considering I picked up Platinum Edition Mags cheaper than he is going for ($39 vs $44) I don't see the point of this figure. Plus I got the original mold TFP Magnus from last year as well so it's a definite pass for me
