[QUOTE=Trent;427329]Have you considered that not everyone has the same expectations and requirements as you? My PS3 currently serves the following roles: game console, DVD player, BluRay player, occasional internet browser and streaming device for both movies and pictures, music, etc. it currently sits in a little cabinet next to my stereo. There is no room for anything else. Considering that most people want these to double as a media centre these days it's not to much to ask that they include these features. It in no way compromises the console. The games are still the same, the controller stays the same, the price may go up a little but that would be easily offset by the increased number units they would shift, which would do nothing but good things for everyone.[/quotye]

Nobody get's a Nintendo console wanting it or expecting it to double as a media centre. And you accuse me of not considering what other people want, when you're own entire argument is "this is what I want from things regardless". You mention increased sales numbers, increased enough to offset any kind of price increase or loss of sales because of a higher base price but I see no proof of that at all. If you've got some links there that prove me wrong, feel free.

I don't want to buy a Wii U then still have to cough up for a BluRay/DVD player. I don't want to fiddle around buying and setting up a media server/streaming device.
    But don't you already have a PS3?

Look at their sales figures and tell me if that's working out for them?
All because of the media capabilities, right? No other reason?

Games are another thing. Do you know why I want one? Mario Kart and Smash Bros. That's it. I can't say I've seen anything else that interests me.
Then you have very peculiar taste or aren't sure what's out there because you don't have one, possibly.

Buying a Bluray player for $100 when you already have a PS3? Sorry but that is ridiculously redundant and very silly.
No it's not. Just like I happily purchased a DVD player despite having a PS2. I set games to auto-run, too. I stopped using the streaming option because of it being so haphazard, not allowing playlists or having a random option. But it's still just so amazing to have these features that are clearly after thoughts, rigid in customisation and compatibility and offer no real advantages if they never work properly? Plus, you demand it inbuilt, and then what happens when you're console dies or is off being repaired?

And actual timeline, so you have some context for your tongue clicking and judging is: Bluray home theatre, PS3, AMP with speakers, Standalone player, robbery, nothing. And I would get them all again (well, not the home theatre).

Imagine what would happen if the Wii U was a Media machine that not only played Bluerays but also played Nintendo games? F**k, it would be meltdown in sales, they would not be able to keep up.
It would result in a higher cost for the system, Nintendo having to pay companies licensing to use Bluray media, and would be features that I don't really think would be used as much or increase sales as much as you're claiming. Much like to Trent, you got some links to backup your claims of a "sales meltdown" over media capabilities? Even with a high base price due to increased production costs?

I didn't know we were under oath in a court of law. We are just talking here, discussing and speculating from our own diverging viewpoints. It is silly when someone demands 'hard evidence' for someone else's casual opinions or views.

There is demand out there. Personally, I don't care as the PS3 covers it but I can see why others would. Having media capabilities on the pad alone would be a plus as you can take it anywhere in the house.

My biggest gripe is lack of proper Dolby/DTS support for games.

Nintendo rocks and the Wii U rocks. I also own a PS3 and X360, and they have some great games (Red Dead Redemption is my all-time favourite game BTW), but i find that their games only hold my attention for so long. There's no need to replay them after completing them (except for Red Dead). I own every Nintendo system from the SNES to present and I always go back to Nintendo games for their quality and replay value.

For those that think that the Wii U is not next-gen because of it's graphics, just remember that the system is only 18 months old and hasn't been fully unlocked yet so their is still more juice it, and that it also runs most games on two screens, the TV and Gamepad. Do any other consoles do this at the moment? It can also pause the game and run the internet browser very quickly at the same time. Not sure if the Xbone and PS4 do this as well as i don't own either, but it's pretty impressive none the less.

Games sush as Sonic Racing, COD and other multi-system games are usually just ported over without any extra work or system tweaks, so the games or graphics aren't going to be pushing the system at all. But look at the games to be released in the next 12-18 months such as Xenoblade Chronicles X, Zelda, Yoshi's Wooly World, Star Fox, they are starting to put pressure on the other consoles regarding graphics and style, and gamers are taking notice.

Each to their own regarding consoles and games, but i'm a gamer so i enjoy games on all consoles. But Nintendo do it best IMO.

Awesome. Way to contribute. Don't worry I won't see any reply, but it's pretty obvious all your "but the console needs it" were just selfish demands trying to be passed as "good business" Nintendo needs to start doing.

    Proof huh? Let's consider:

sales figures for June and last financial year
    Wii U total units moved
    PS4 Total units moved

So considering that the PS4 has shifted nearly 3 million more units when it has been out for 12 months lees that the Nintendo even though it costs significantly more, would indicate that consumers are indeed willing to pay more for a game console if they feel the value is there. So it is a safe assumption that that the Sony is offering consumers something that the Wii U isn't. Is it the games? The media features? The surround sound? Advertising? Nathan Drake? I don't know. But Ido know that Sony are obviously doing something better than Nintendo because you can't argue with sales figures.

I don't want to turn this into a Nintendo bashing thread, but failure to accept the Wii U as anything but perfect doesnt help matters either. My original post was surprise and disappointment at Nintendo's lack of what I thought had come to be standard features for a major console. I still want a Wii U. I just don't know if I can justify it because if I get one, I have to remove my PS3 because I don't have enough space in my entertainment unit for both. But that's my problem, no one else's.

The marketing team at Nintendo failed the wii u. Many people who have seen mine thought it was just a new handheld attachment for the old wii. Others had no idea what it was as they had not rally seen anything about it in any stores.

If Nintendo had spent some money marketing the wii u properly, sales would have been better, and they would have been far better if there were some halfway decent launch games. the one "must own" game per 6 months is not a viable strategy. There are other great games on the system, but only mariokart has the large "grab" audience at the moment.

I had similar reactions from people who notice my pad on the charger. However they can ID the Wii remote and white accessories associated like remote driving wheel so it tells you that there is a disconnection.

Wii U is the best next gen system for me easily, I dislike the cinematic trash that makes up the bulk of 'AAA' console releases, and I have a PC that runs games comfortably from 60fps to 120+fps. I'll get a ps4 if it gets close the the ps3 level of interesting niche games & exclusives, but if the biggest draws currently being Destiny and a friggin' re-release of Last of Us? I'll be waiting a while...

As far as the boner? hah, nope.
