He has no social skills at all. And it's endearing to watch him."

Fox wasn't saying Bay committed genocide, hated jews, black people or gypsies, waged war against half the world, or had a mustache. She was saying he likes to be a totalitarian ruler while on set. Yes, it's not politically correct to liken anyone to Hitler, but she's been a Hollywood princess since she was fifteen, and thus has her own lack of social skills to deal with. The whole thing was overblown, and yes, clearly Michael Bay doesn't have a real problem with her, since he's the producer of TMNT and its sequel.

Clearly you understood how I saw it.
Is just a shame no 3 became bad because of Spielberg .

Cos the live action films had no problems what-so-ever before Fox left the franchise, and Revenge of the Fallen was an absolute pearl of cinematic literature. There's this interview where Spielberg denied directing Bay to sack Fox over the Hitler comment. Who knows... maybe Bay will find a way to bring Fox back for TF5. He seems to have a limitless supply of excuses to keep bringing Megatron back.

Hmmm, you may be onto something there.. Both their movie careers do keep getting resurrected somehow...

You can kind of tell that Carly's role was written with Mikaela in mind, and so it's a bit weird to come into the third movie where Sam has a pre-existing relationship with someone other than Mikaela (building up this relationship over two movies, plus, Megan Fox as Mikaela did have more than a few fans) but given her unplanned departure, I think it was handled 'well enough'.

After all, it seemed like there were fans who really wanted Carly, and that was what they got

Back on topic, my 'favourite movie' order would be 3,4,1,2. For me, DotM just works: good story, good pacing (ok, the first half-hour was a bit slow), substantial bot screen time, amazing action sequences.

As an aside, personally, I think the 'problem' has more to do with the writing than Bay's directing. The writing to date has been adequate to good, but I think Ehren Kruger (should he return) should have a co-writer if he doesn't already.

Give Bay a good script and he can deliver an amazing movie: The Rock is one of the best action movies of the '90s, and The Island was very good (if derivative).
