Having neighbours who were actually neighbourly and whom you could trust to look over your home, and vice-versa, when you went out - streets often knowing everyone who lived on them.

Being able to stand at the fence of said neighbour and NOT being able to reach over and touch the side of their house.

Homes actually having front and backyards where kids were often found playing.

Residential streets that were more than a single lane wide.

Rotary-dial telephones and when you weren't near one, you couldn't be contacted.

Corner stores & milk bottle deliveries.

    Brocky vs. Dick Johnson.

A Country Practise, Neighbours, Hey Hey It's Saturday!, Mick Dundee & Mr. Squiggle!

Smaller towns, less people, longer distances between places, park lands, more wildlife and greater stretches of farm/crown land.

    Women in High-cut Swimwear.
Everything is this list is a big +1.

I still remember putting the old, washed milk bottles outside for the milkman when I was a child. And using those foil caps for so many projects in primary school!

Back in the 80's, there was such a sense of community. Like you mentioned, neighbours knew each other, and kept an eye out for each other. That sort of thing just doesn't happen today, and its a real shame.
Whether its just people don't care anymore, or they are too worried about being liable if anything happens (theft, damage to property, etc) while you are away, or even too scared (with how seemingly normal people are in fact complete psychos!) its just really a shame that we have lost our close knit communities.

I think there is actually a XXX Parody called In Dianna Jones and the Temple of Poon.

As far as the 80s go, how about Ghostbusters? A kids movie featuring plenty of smoking, the word "s*it" used countless times and ghost fantasy dreams. Kids movies today are so lame.

It's like the movies of the day aimed at teenagers. They featured plenty of bad language, drug use, violence and gratuitous sex. Imagine if movies like that were released today

Quite frankly I'm amazed that Hunger Games was released considering it features kids violently murdering each other.

    Anyone miss cracker night?

So what do we NOT miss from the 80s? My list would be:
    * People smoking indoors and just more rampant smoking in general.
    * Tobacco advertising.
    * People incinerating their rubbish in their backyards.
    * No recycling, and those little galvanised metal non-wheelie rubbish bins.
    * Star Wars Episode 4.5 <--- warning: watching this film will hurt your brain

    You mean this one:

It was pretty decent, although Muppet monsters stuffing things in their maws is still my favourite thing about the Muppet Show.

Apart from what had already been said here it seems a lot of people have forgotten about COPS.
This cartoon was really good. Animation was awesome.
