Just opened one of my Shockwaves tonight. Each one of these recent MP's that I'm opening is making me wish I could buy two of each MP from now on (one to display and the other to stay in the box). But that's not going to happen so I'll enjoy seeing the freed one's in my display.
Loved the purple, and I didn't feel the lack of paint made it look cheap. Nice weight in hand, especially good feel in laser mode. The transformation was so easy and intuitive, I barely looked at the instructions. Another G1 toy I never owned but now have the new and improved model.![]()
Shockwave is bit underwhelming for me. Feels too plastic-y in hand. It doesn't feel cheap, as the majority of parts are a really beautiful and rich shade of purple (and very cartoon accurate), it's just too plain without paint. This is where sometimes the character design would help. Star Saber was deliberately almost all plastic, but his palette is so much more colorful, with different moulded color parts and painted highlights all over him. But Shockwave's monotone design makes him feel like a big chunk of unfinished, plain plastic.
His transformation also feels just a bit too simple for his size. I wish his arms did more, at least to make the top view in gun mode better, and to hide the screw holes better.
His robot mode is quite cartoon accurate and the legs don't feel thin in person. It's disappointing that his sideways hip joints are not ratcheted. His weight may weaken these joints in the long run. Probably the transformation doesn't allow room for this, but still, it's unfortunate that the load bearing joints are handled like this.
Overall, he's a decent figure, but not worth the retail price. I got from amiami for 12000 yen and personally still feel it's not worth the price. For people who already like Shockwave, this is a great figure to be that definite version of Shockwave. But I have never been a fan of Shockwave's, and this figure, unlike MP-27, which completely won me over even though I was never an Ironhide fan either, makes it harder for me to justify the asked price.
Is there any clear pics on locking the head?
I see the head gap when pulled back but doesn't seem to catch on anything?
Because I only paid $135 for my piece, I like it more than most of my MPs .
Have not even play with batteries in it.
My only complaint mainly was locking the head.
Paint wise is TT and honestly it could be worse.
I was wondering about the head lock too, seemed odd to just have it loose

As pointed out thanks
After finding the solution for head I rate this toy about 7.8 out of 10
The colour should be darker if I want to be picky, but as a ray cannon is okay.
I am surprised that there was diecast.
If you paid over $200 you might be quite disappointed.
I think we'll get a darker purple version at some point -- probably next year.
There really aren't many repaint options available besides dark purple (both 'toon and toy), grey toy version, and the animation error colours (which I would buy!):
