List the Doctors in order of preference - i.e. your most favourite to least favourite.
Mine would be:
1: Tom Baker
2: David Tennant
3: Sylvester McCoy
4: Peter Davison
5: Christopher Eccleston
6: Jon Pertwee
7: William Hartnell
8: Patrick Troughton
9: Paul McGann
10: Colin Baker
I've not included Matt Smith cos I've been missing the new series - I gotta catch up and watch more of the new eps before I can decide.![]()
Sylvester McCoy, William Hartnell, Paul McGann and Tom Baker are the four Doctors who I feel the most nostalgic about. It's hard to compare the 21st century series with the old one... and so far, I think I like Matt Smith better than David Tennant or Christopher Eccleston. (David Tennant would probably be ranked lower than the other two 'new' doctors, but that may just be because he was there for longer and thus got stuck with numerically more sucky episodes.)
Peter Davison, Jon Pertwee, Colin Baker and Patrick Troughton are the Doctors I least care for, although all have their merits. The Pertwee era in particular was certainly revolutionary (and not just because of the advent of colour television.)
I would concur with your list, except I wouldn't know where to put Patrick Troughton and William Hartnell as I've never watched a full serial of either.
Reading the Wiki on Colin Baker Doctor, makes me feel sorry for the actor, it seems the producers and writters are just as much to blame for his crappy doctor as he was. They could have at least let him wear tastefull clothes.
Goki: I can't believe you have listed Peter Davidson higher than Jon Pertwee
At least you have Tom Baker in the right spot![]()

This is not to say that all the stories of the higher-ranked Doctors are brilliant or that all of the stories of the lower-ranked ones are stinkers. It's my overall impression of them.
My kids would be better judges of who is better amongst the Doctors in the new series (I don't watch it enough to judge).
* If this list included the Missing Adventures novels the 6th Doctor would most likely move up, but I have limited this to TV performances since this is the most accessible medium.
1. Jon Pertwee he is the king!!! introduced u.n.i.t, the master, sarah jane smith and he had a chase scene with the master and they didnt use crappy cars they had HOVERCRAFTS!! you just cant beat that
2. Tom Baker
3. David Tennant
4. William Hartnell
and the rest and dont care too much about
I dunno... Jon Pertwee always scared me. I think it's because I was first exposed to him when I watched Worzel Gummidge -- which scared the bejeebus out of me! I dunno why they thought a scarecrow would appeal to kids, cos in my eyes Worzel Gummidge looked like this! Can't sleep, scarecrow will eat me... Can't sleep, scarecrow will eat me...
So yeah, when I saw reruns of the Third Doctor, I just kept seeing that scary scarecrow!!Maybe I need to watch those eps again now that I'm a tad older.

For all his flashiness and bravado Pertwee still never made that huge an impression on me. I remember the books his doctor was in better than the episodes.
I dunno maybe If I went back and watched an ep I'd give him a higher spot, but still not in my top 3.
