    Default Alt-Mode Soft Spots

This comes from my thoughts on the "alt modes" thread. Aside from what you've suggested as what you would want to see, what alt modes do you just love, regardless of series or general release disapproval.

Are you a huge fan of sports car alt modes? Maybe trucks. Construction vehicles? Animals? What's a type you always have to have, or lean towards.

Personally, I think I'm a huge fan of animal alt modes. I love every Jungle Planet (Cybertron) figure I have, as well as getting the Animated Dinobots as soon as possible. I'm not sure what it is, but I'm a huge fan of animal alt modes .

    But what about you guys?

    Sports cars and military vehicles.

G1 Whirl is one of my favourite all time alt modes.

I like futuristic vehicles. Two favorites that come to mind:

    G1 Kup
    Animated Cybertron Mode Prime

It seems that a primary characteristic is a straight sloping front-end/windscreen, thus also including:

    Animated Bulkhead
    JRX or other bullet trains

They just remind me of what we were told the future was going to look like when we were kids

    Down with bonnets!

jaydisc: that's interesting because a lot of TF fans got turned off from G1 when they started going for more futuristic alt modes. I'd say the peak of G1 was during 1984-86, where most alt modes were realistic Earth forms. From 1987 onwards, i.e.: Headmasters, Targetmasters et al., we started getting more futuristic Cybertronian alt modes which a lot of people have told me turned them off from Transformers.

I don't mind either, so long as the toy is executed well... but in my observation realistic alt modes tend to be really popular amongst people (e.g.: Car Robot, Binaltech/Alternators) so I find it interesting to see someone with a different view.

And why aren't we wearing colour-matching full body jumpsuits with our first name initials on them damnit?! (and who wouldn't want a hoverboard?? (even if it was from Mattel ))

Well, I can't think of any other futuristic alt modes that I'm in to (e.g. Cybertron jets, etc.) so I do think it has a lot to do with the sloping windshield. I'd add G1 Blurr to the list too, but not Hot Rod. Interestingly, G1 Kup and Blurr's alt modes and simple colorings look like they could be from Animated, where the slight of alt mode I like has seen a resurgence.

As far as G1 fans being turned off, that's just part of the constant that is the rejection of change.

Hey! You kids! Get off my lawn!

Well I don't know about you but I'm just waiting on my monogram to be imprinted....

I prefer realistic over futuristic generally but think it's appropriate where the character has a futuristic alt mode in some fiction e.g. War Within.
I've been trying to convince myself that the new Universe Blaster is in his Cybertronian mode so that I can allow him a spot on the Classics shelf. Still can't bring myself to do it but we live in hope.

    Vehicles: Muscle cars.

    War machines: Tanks.

    Animals (robot or meat): Kitties.

But for an overall type: War machines. And the more earthern the better.

Ah the ideal picture of the future car from the 60's/70's, the non-aerodynamic cheese wedge or door stop.
