I think when people get it in hand, they might be more willing to question if a deluxe sized toy with 3 small, display-only accessories is really worth $50. That sort of price difference warrants a significant amount or size of accessories, like recent MP toys with an excessive amount of accessories that get used once, or not at all.
Exactly. I'm happy that they've 'scaled' Hot Rod with his buddies Blurr and Kup, and am OK with a different price point, but at least give us more than just 3 measly accessories. A non-convertible Arblus figure would be nice, or an articulated Spike action figure with hoverboard accessory.
    Recent Acquisitions: MP-53+B Dia Burnout
    (Pre-)ordered: Missing Link C-02
    Wants: Encore Headmasters!

That sort of price difference warrants a significant amount or size of accessories, like recent MP toys with an excessive amount of accessories that get used once, or not at all.

Looking at my Prime Wars display shelves next to my desk, the Voyagers are about 50% bigger than their Deluxe counterparts (especially the combiner teams that have the Voyagers next to their Deluxe limbs, who each have accessories (hand/foot) that are bigger than the combined volume of Hotrod's 3 non-weapon accessories).

The toys look nice, and will play & display nicely, but I'm just disappointed that Hasbro are selling toys of a particular size-class, in a more expensive size-class.
We have seen with Earthrise in particular that toys in a larger size (or should it be price, nowadays?) class often get a bit of extra engineering as compared to those in the smaller classes. Earthrise Prime is the best example of this. The cab is a solid Voyager size-wise, and the trailer hardly makes the whole thing a Leader, but the toy itself is significantly more complex and involved than a Voyager. Although Hasbro has improved construction across the board in the recent lines (using pins instead of ball joints for example) the larger sizes are often better put together.

I think the SS Hot Rod being sold at the larger price is likely just an example of this, and the fact that the Studio Series has always been willing to raise or lower the physical size of toys in a certain class in order to better represent their on-screen appearance. I doubt Hasbro are really trying to rip off or deceive anyone with Hot Rod.

So pumped for these. The latest G1 figures seem to be spread out across the earth rise, kingdom and studio series lines. It's great that they're getting some love. I wonder if they'll consider remaking the G1 movie with today's technology and maybe aesthetics?

Hot Rod looks to be taller than a Deluxe but shorter than a Voyager. So he will be taller than Kup and Blurr - I'd guesstimate that Hot Rod would be around 15cm in height.

The story might need some modifications...

P.S.: Super-stoked to be getting a proper CHUG Barricade toy! (even if it is just a lazy repaint of Roller Force - I'll take it!)

Looks like the Headmaster faces on the box art have been altered to match the faces found on each relevant toy. A number of those G1-style boxes will sadly end up with bent flaps.

Well yeah, you're right; Hardhead's practically a whole different head! The faces and the Nebulon's legs added and some other minor details. Doesn't look like any of the rest of the body has been altered though.

I googled up some images of the Japanese releases ibut those had the same artwork as the Hasbro ones (thanks Heroic_Decepticon where ever you are)

Yep, the artwork on the vintage Hasbro and Takara boxes appear to be identical.

On closer inspection, it seems the Walmart Headmasters feature the Legends heads on Titans Return (TR) toy bodies. They feature TR colours and tampo printed 'stickers'.
