For testing purposes, perhaps you can set up a password protected subdomain and a create new 'slot' on your web hosting service. It should be possible under cPanel.

Make a backup of the live site. Copy the live site onto the testing slot. Upgrade the board on the testing slot, making notes of the steps.

If the upgrade is successful, take the live site offline and make a backup. Keep it as a snapshot.

Create another copy of the backup. Replace the testing site with this latest copy of the live site. Perform the upgrade as per the successful test run. When it's working correctly, replace the live site with the upgraded site. Switch on the live site. The DB and files will be in sync.

I have suddenly started getting this - on Chrome both on mobile and desktop (but not on Edge?). I've tried signing out and clearing cookies/browser cache to no effect...

Just logged in and noticed that myself
Looks like the style sheet isn’t loading (from what little html I understand)

CSS file is loading from a http address so being blocked when the webpage is https as a security precaution in some browsers.

If the css file reference can be updated to https it should be sorted.

Some browsers allow it though so not bothering everyone

Some observations re the forum via https (secure connection).

It appears resources (such as the Ozformers banner) are referenced as absolute paths via http://. This may cause problems when viewing the site via https:// as some web browsers will warn that there is a mixture of secure and non-secure resources.

Another issue is that the website doesn't appear to be automatically redirecting visitors from http:// to https://. When I search for the forum on Google ('otca' or 'ozformers'), the http:// version appears instead of the secure https:// version. There is no redirect to the secure version. Might be prudent to force https://.

I will see if there is something that can be done... but it just seems like a higher power is determined to make sure that this site doesn't work properly, as it keeps coming up with new problems to force people off.

A higher power like Primus, perhaps?

Maybe there is something in the forum settings affecting rewrite conditions in the .htaccess file.

Along with custom error pages, force HTTPS, password protection etc, the .htaccess file can make URLs user-friendly by hiding page extensions like .php. The .php extension (eg on 'forumdisplay.php', 'showthread.php') seems to be showing in the URL. Can't remember if it was already like that.

    That could be worth investigating.

So I've not been very active on here for a few months because this site is broken beyond all use on Chrome on my home PC, work PC, and Samsung galaxy tab. It sporadically works on my phone, and only consistently works on my MacBook.

All of these devices use Chrome to access the site.

The whole thing loads as a big wall of largely unformatted text on a white background with the only image being the site banner.

It's a bit of a pain in the behind tbh.
I'm really just here for the free food and open bar.

For some reason it doesn’t work on my desktop, but works fine on my laptop. Both are using chrome and on Windows.
I'll update this when I'm needing help finding particular figures

Sometime, long ago, I had temporary access to the forum's configuration. Happy to put my hand up to see if I can fix the style sheet error that's causing most of the concern. (I did try logging in but my permissions don't let me)
