RIP Roberto Orci
ICYMI Roberto Orci, co-writer of the 2007 Transformers movie and Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, and one of the showrunners on Transformers Prime, passed away on 25/2/25 from kidney disease.
The 2007 movie gave the Transformers franchise a significant boost, increasing toy sales by 200%. While it was Beast Wars that saved the Transformers brand from extinction in the late 90s, it was the 2007 Transformers movie that made Transformers mainstream in the late noughties to now. Anyone who started collecting Transformers in 2007 or later can thank people like Roberto Orci for bringing TFs to the masses. And yeah, the mainstreaming of TFs has had its pros and cons, but overall I think it's largely had a positive impact on the brand.
