New Masterpiece MPG Optimus Prime

I guess by now we expect a new MP Optimus every 8 years or so.

Via their official X.com post earlier today, Tomy has revealed a new Masterpiece MPG Optimus Prime, with a silhouette of the figure in both modes.

There's no information on its size, whether it includes a trailer, or price point yet.

While i like it and might get this, i hope that even if this is a design philosophy reboot for the G1 MP's, we get more MPG's of G1 characters that never had MP toys, and fewer version 3 or 4 of Starscreams and Bumblebees.

The full colour image as well as the product announcement were posted in a subsequent tweet. TFW2005 have mirrored the image as well as posting a translation of the accompanying text.

I thought it was interesting that TakaraTOMY are making a point to use the Optimus Prime name where previous Masterpiece figures used the Convoy name; I had thought that they only used the Optimus name for the movieverse, and this was reflected in their releases of movieverse figures, most recently Studio Series. On their official website, they made a point to list Studio Series G1 Optimus using the Optimus name (TakaraTOMY don't distinguish between 'normal' Studio Series and Studio Series '86), as well as the MPG Shattered Glass Optimus.

This new figure looks good but if you’re starting a new line of stylised G1 Transformers why not make that the new/separate line?

I’m sure this will be “premium” but it doesn’t feel that different from many other Optimus toys.

They've been using the Optimus Prime name fairly consistently since the "unification" and Hasbro's boxes. I noticed that while they called MP44 Convoy, the MP44-s colour one is called Optimus Prime. Even the Dramatic Capture series used Optimus
As for shattered glass, one could argue, since it was a TF Club situation, there never was a Shattered Glass version of Convoy per se.

Interested to see more of this one - I like the more stylised aesthetic (a bit different from the pure G1 of the SS86 OP) but not clear it's different enough from my other Primes to bite!
