I ended up buying the Imperial Assault box set and played a game at a store I found, also joined a couple of facebook groups for it. I'm very, very, verrryyy slowly painting the figures hehe. It was pretty fun and I would like to get more into it.

I have not played it yet, but I play X-Wing a lot, and intend on starting to play Armada, both of which are made by Fantasy Flight Games, the same people that made Imperial Assault.

yeah i know about x-wing and armada, i watched a couple of games of x-wing but i think i prefer the imperial assault style. especially if i can somehow get into a campaign eventually.
