There was one man arrested but released due to lack of evidence. Another man has been arrested and afaik is still in police custody under investigation. There was a new fire that was started by lightning last night, but the main fires which started the whole thing appears to have been deliberately lit by firebugs. Police have assembled a special task force (Phoenix) to investigate this.

NSW Premiere Nathan Rees mentioned that NSW has sent some police officers down to assist Task Force Phoenix.

Today's been quite nice in Sydney. Not too hot nor cold. A bit too humid for my liking though, mostly cos my car window keeps fogging when I'm driving so I gotta keep the demister on. (-_-) There's been rain, but it's not too bad.

Btw, I wonder if those arsonists can be placed under charges of terrorism... considering that people are comparing the bushfire's destruction, injuries and loss of lives with the Bali Bombing.

I wonder how many people will rebuild in the same area, and how many will move away?

I also wonder if it would be worth the government creating town Fire bunkers for small remote towns, just small ones, enough to hold 50 people for a day or so. Only suggest town ones, as if each property had to build one, it might be cost prohibitive, especially seeing as you would hope that they were never used.

Should charge the Green Tree Huggers. If they had have allowed planned backburning to go ahead, the fire would have had much less fuel to eat. Might not have changed much in the end, but you never know how much a couple of hundred metres of backburnning could have changed things.

Arsonists should be set alight in a glass room, free to run around as they slowly burn. Might make people think twice before starting a fire.
