don't forget that in the G1 comics there were two versions of Fortress Maximus - you had Fortress Maximus I, who was considerably smaller - he directly bonded with Galen... then you had Fortress Maximus II, who had an upgraded body that also featured a new headmaster robot for Galen to bond with (Cerebros).
