The owner of Figures Direct, further reinforced by Hasbro directly at the Toy Fair.

Nope. I got a Commemorative Dirge back in 2003 and it's great. Fortunately the G1 Dirge mould never had any spring-loaded launchers or chrome for Hasbro to stuff up on.

Quality wise (and missiles aside) Commemorative reissue seekers appear to be of the same quality as the Takara Book reissues including a Japanese Sticker sheet

I find these book reissue seekers to be of better quality than Encores.

The same goes for the Skywarp and Thundercrakcker except for the missiels. Missiles aside these reissues appear to be of slightly better quality than the encores.

Is this Engrish or does Takara call him Powergride?

Yeah but the Commemorative reissues came out before Encore. It's not too surprising that there would be some mould degradation with Encore Skywarp and Thundercracker considering that it would be the third time those moulds have been reissued.

That's subjective. Powerglide's name is written as パワーグライド (/pa'wa; gu'ɾa'i'do/). Although commonly Romanised as "r" the Japanese consonant /ɾ/ is not the same as /r/. It is a apical postalveolar flap undefined for laterality and is quite similar to the "r" phoneme used in Korean (reference).

I don't ever recall seeing it spelt like that before. It's written as Powerglide on the actual Japanese box too. Obviously no point spelling it with the r as a search will miss it. Just my 2c

    Question:

Is Transformers Animated showing in Japan? Or if Japanese fans are fansubbing torrents/distros what do they think of it? Just curious.
Which brings us to where we are today...

Happens all the time on eBay. It's the seller's loss because they lose out on potential bidders. But sometimes you can find good deals on auctions where the item's mispelt because there's often bugger all competition!

afaik it's not out in Japan, and fansub distribution doesn't really happen in Japan because they have ultra-tight copyright laws there; copyright violation is also often viewed as vulgar amongst fans there. That's why Japanese fan sites rarely even have screen captures... it's mostly text and original fan art, toy photography etc. e.g.: Autobase Aichi

The box I linked is the Takara "USA Edition" which is Hasbro's packaging unaltered with stickers. Is that the box you meant, or have you seen it written as "Powerglide" in English on more native Takara packaging?

Yep, just referring to that box.

In the Japanese "Transformers First Series Complete" and "The Transformers Binaltech & TF Collection Complete Guide" books it is spelt Powerglide, about as official as it gets, I guess... © 2004 and © 2005 TAKARA respectively.

I did a search for "powergride" and a whole heap of Japanese websites popped up, so I guess it is Engrish . I just don't remember seeing it before - Seen plenty of Rijiers (Ligier) tho

Thanks. Interesting given how competitive the fansubbing wars are over some animes . And that's their own native animes rather than USA animations.
