I recently managed to get my hands on the Tamashii Spec web-exclusive Positron Rifle from Evangelion 1.0.

More pics in the photography thread.

I took advantage of that 10% off eBay sale in February to get these:

The soundtrack for Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo and Bandai Robot Spirits Evangelion Units Two and Three.

I got bored of the design, it was an inspiration back then, to me these are dated, even the NEW Metal build I am over it. It was ridiculous people charging 35,000 at NY site.
I have all four of the Bandai Spec design, and I am about to retire them from my display as it no longer "wow" me in the mecha scene.

But saying that, If you into them the Mafex will do fine. I actually hate the BS of this design being upgraded and adding a lot of weapons that the Eva units never even touched in the anime. Is just giving an excuse for you to buy and update.
I personally wished Bandai continued the perfect grade EVA units but they only done 01 which was a shame.

There?s a bit of furore among the fans as the Netflix series has been redubbed with an entirely new cast. I understand theres going to be the inevitable comparison with the original cast, but I heard that they were allegedly given false hopes of being a part of the re-dub.

In addition there has been some changes to the translation, which apparently was supposed to be closer/direct to the Japanese translation but doesn?t make actual sense in English. For example the pilots are individually referred to as ?children? ie ?Third Children, Second Children? rather than ?Third Child or Second Child?. Some changes also impact the emotional conveyance but I guess thats up to each person to interpret.

Heres the thing, I was actually not a fan of the design as they are not really robots which is what I am into. The story of the anime helped. But for me Eva has grown out of style < is just me, dont worry if you still into it. Just not into the skeleton frame bio mech.
They are sort of just recycling the product imo just to make new toys. The original set of three or four Evas are good enough and I am retiring them from my display. I think the Mafex one is reasonably good.

What makes me cringe is an Optimus cross over or some other series has to made an Eva color version. So over this move. If its not an Eva, is not.

Well, Evangelion was clearly more of a ?one off? series compared to something like Gundam which spans multiple character/story/event arcs and thus introduce new designs and merchandise. So not surprising we don?t see much in terms of variety in the merchandise.

Thats not what I mean, I mean this design as grown outdated. You can only change so much for any EVA unit. Is just down to die hard fans who still in love with the design continues to buy and support (nothing wrong there). Do we see a new Eva 01 unit? Not exactly, the Evangelion designs are only regenerating based on the basic construction and this is what I mean "you can only do so much with it". Gundam is a lot different, the mech changes with significant amount of design changes. Its also not contained by the bio mechanical design unlike Eva is. I hope that clears it up.

When word that Netflix had acquired the licence first broke, Spike Spencer (original English Shinji), Tiffany Grant (original English Asuka), and Amanda Winn-Lee (original English Rei) expressed their interest in reprising their roles. Winn-Lee and Grant were eventually allowed to audition, but this seems to have been just a token gesture, and both were bound by NDAs until the series was actually released on Netflix. According to one of the voice directors (who also plays Misato), Khara selected the cast.

Yep, the new subtitle and dub scripts have proven to be quite contentious. They seem to emphasise fidelity to the original Japanese at the expense of localisation to English, so some word and phrase selections sound strange to a native English speaker. The Child vs. Children one you mentioned is a notorious example - the original Japanese script literally uses the English word 'Children' to refer to even a singular pilot. Matt Greenfield, who wrote the original English script in 1996, recalled that he fought with Gainax to allow him to change this to 'Child' since it makes no grammatical sense in English and they were vetting his scripts.

There have been quite a few detail changes to the Evas over the years - the most marked being the Anima designs, which the new Bandai Metal Build figures seem to be inspired by, but the basic shape has stayed the same, probably to keep that distinctive Eva look.
