    Default SMH mini-reviews RotF

Today's Sydney Morning Herald had, as usual, the Metro liftout. Surprisingly, it had a small review of RotF in it.

    Verdict?

    "2 1/2 stars

The second Transformers movie is coarser, louder, dumber, and a teensy bit longer, like most sequels, but also tinged with bitterness and bile."

Waitwhat? Bitterness? Bile? As far as I've seen, it seems to be GIANT ROBOT SMASHFEST WEEEE, not anything particularly bitter. Or bile-y (which is likely not a word).

Since there wasn't a full review during the week, I'm betting that tomorrow's Spectrum will have it, where the reviewer will hopefully explain the bitterness and bile. I am not looking forward to the review in the Sun Herald, since the new reviewer they've employed appears to hate sci-fi on principle (evidence: Star Trek with 4/10).

The Telegraph gave it 2 1/2 stars too. The critique actually balked at a particular idea. Showing that the reviewer didn't do any research while writing the article...

I always disregard those reviews. I much prefer reading/watching reviews from Margaret and David from At The Movies.
I'm actually curious as to what they write about it.

I remember one review about the first movie which actually demonstrated that the reviewer had either not paid attention to the film or just didn't get it. And let's be honest, Transformers is not a movie written at the level of sophistication that anyone over the age of 8 wouldn't "get." It's no Donnie Darko (I think I get that movie?).

I hate to be negative, and I'm going to be honest I haven't seen the movie yet but from a non-fans perspective I bet 2 and1/2 out of 5 stars is probably right. I mean when you strip away all the robots, special effects and explosions what are we left with, crude humour that is funny the first time but will find it become annoying if its everywhere. I'll enjoy the movie for all the action and destruction and a few notable transformers.
