There's an offical movie book? is it any good?
I got the Transformers visual guide, it was pretty average, the Star wars ones were better. I like books with decent pics of props costumes and CGI renderings.
I managed to confrim they were a little bit different from some of the promo pics on the web, now I'm trying to recall if they had standard balistic rifles or those other wierd wave guns.
And what is the ranking with all these guys, we have a Viper Commando, Neo, Ice and eventualy Elite. So where is the standard Viper trooper? I would have thought the Elite one looks the most standard, as there were plenty of the black masked cannon fodder types in the movie. Though I'm not quite sure which is the more elite of the Neo and Commando, they both seem pretty well equiped. In my personal universe I assume the Neo Vipers are nano-boosted ultimate unquestioning solider types (like the movie, or Bruiticus in transformers) and the Commandos are more independent, and unorthadox soliders.
No idea where the Nano Viper would fit in.
As a Cobra fan these things are of interest to me, As a kid I always tried to figure out the original series Viper rankings, I always assumed it was something like.

I was excited when I saw it, then after flipping through, I felt it was pretty average. Lots of nice full colour pictures... almost too many. There were some nice shots like various Viper helmet designs that got rejected, but the majority of it was just stuff and screenshots from the movie. I ended up skipping on it even though I could have gotten it for 20% off. And I really didn't regret my decision.
That and they didn't have a section on Cobra Commander or Destro (in the mask), but they had a bit on Rex. I wanted to see the CC helmet design phases, that was what killed it for me.

The movie, they all had those weird wave guns. Really, the Viper Commando and the Neo-Viper looked and acted almost identical. I wondered why they had 2 designs to begin with. I also assume the Viper Commando IS the standard trooper, since they were normal guys before becoming Neos. Don't forget the Eel also made an appearance piloting the subs in the undersea battle.
Wow, it's funny you said the Toxo-Vipers are BELOW even the Cobra blueshirts. How come?
But your chart in my mind seems right for ranking purposes.

I'd agree that the Toxo-Vipers are the lowest ranking troops based on their bio-card. If I recall correctly, the Toxo Vipers had the worst job of all the vipers and only became one as punishment for screwing up in their other roles. But don't quote me on that.

Toxo Viper AKA the leaky suit brigade assignments were indeed handed out as punishment to unruly Vipers. Other specialties include serving canapes so i guess they are even lower than Kitchen-Vipers.
However in the comic, Toxo Vipers sometimes seem to order other Vipers around, even jibed the Baroness. My theory is they are just headstrong having fallen to the bottom of the pile they push others around figuring they can't get any lower.
Regarding the movie Vipers, I didn't notice the Eel being different, I just saw a lot of black masked Cobra troops just like the Neo and Commando vipers they looked alike to me, I gotta watch it again. My theory is still that the black masked Vipers are lower ranked or less elite than the Silver masked Vipers. From what I can make out from a combination of the movie, toys and file card, the Silver Masked Vipers appear to have better armour, and weaponry. There also sent on important missions while they other Vipers guard the base, given the importance of the Nano-warheads Cobra would have sent their best to attack the desert convoy, though presumably Neo Vipers were not completed in time.
I think hasbro just like to name everyone elite, commando or awesome to boost sales.
