Oh no, it's waaay better than that. The vending machines in question actually sell - or rather used to sell, as the vending machines have now been banned as far as I know - pre-worn panties, so perverts consumers can buy them to smell. Nowadays you have to go to specialist shops, which is nowhere near as wacky cool funny IMO.

Ode is right. Those vending machines are now outlawed.

And not because of anything to do with countering sexual deviants/perverts -- but because it violates health laws! My guess is that it's probably a lot easier to enforce existing laws for public hygiene rather than trying to push for legislation to outlaw people from being perverts.

I was going to say what Ode had said but thought it was unnecessary since it is a public forum.

Also let's not divert from the topic :P

note to self "fear japanese vending machines and toilets"

ok, here is my current plan for japan

Osaka for first 3 or 4 days (see osaka castle, go to den den town)
then Hiroshima for 3 or 4 days (go to miyajima)
    (Blank)
Then Tokyo for about 2 weeks (Go to akihabara, go to shibuya, go to kyoto, go to ikebukuro, go to odaiba)

are there any other parts of japan that are worth staying at for a few days between hiroshima and tokyo for either Transformers, sightseeing, cultural stuff?

also reviews of hotels or airlines would be helpful too so feel free to post those

The panties from vending machines were pre-worn... but can you be certain they weren't pre-worn by men...?

geographic thought here, kyoto is closer to osaka than tokyo. Although you can take the shinkansen between the two, its pricey. Oh shinkansen is the bullet train.

Make a trip to hakone which is in the vicinity of mt fuji. There is a toy museum there that doesn't have tfs, but it has lots of pre-60s toys. Plus its a good place for onsen hotels. Er hot springs, which are always nice.

I enjoyed the museum, it had lost of kitsch styled stuff which I reckon is awesome.

While you are there, investigate staying at a Ryokan (traditional japanese inn). They cost a bit more than a normal hotel, but the experience is worth it!

Fear them? Japanese made Western toilets are like super advanced future toilets, the traditonal kind are scary though, even if they do make more sense given human physiology.

I rather liked Hiroshima as a contrast to Tokyo, perhaps because it is a much smaller city it had a more relaxed vibe. You should go to the peace memorial park with the A bomb dome at what was Hirsohima's ground zero, the museum there is a sombering experience but worth it.

It's also right next to the centre of town, where a number of stores selling TF's and other things can be found if you search.

Also Himeji is between Osaka and Hirsohima, and worth a one day look (you probably don't need to stay there though, just drop by on the way up or down).
