I found out my placement for Japan today: Izumi City, Osaka.
It sounds perfect, half an hour away from Osaka proper by train, small and quiet ("sometimes seen as a countryside place because there's not much to do besides go to restaurants or karaoke" - suits me fine), nice liberal university nearby with a large exchange student population, and a few hundred kms away from the recent disaster area.

    Odie: おめでとうございます!

kristofferer: That first sign says that it costs 1000JPY per night to use the hotel's PC - see reception. Doesn't say if there's any additional charge for internet usage, but you'd better ask just to be sure. The second sign says that if you want to use the laundry, then please wait at reception before 09:30AM. The laundry is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Gok, you're a life saver! Thanks for translating it for me.

Oh my services don't come free. I'll be expecting a free toy upon your return! If you go to Mandarake, get me an Autoceptor (the Japanese equivalent to Time Warrior!)

EDIT - welp, can't delete the double post, but...had the JET Q&A session today and it sounds like a blast, they even arrange the acommodation (both in general and during the Tokyo orientation) so now it's just filling out forms, making sure I can get my prescribed Ritalin through with a Yakkan Shoumei and learning basic survival phrases...

Also, Japanese workers told to beat the heat with Hawaiian shirts
In an amazing coincidence, guess what totally extraneous item of clothing I've had a penchant for and have been collecting ever since going to Brazil about 10 years ago?
