Beast Wars is the series to watch.
Beast Machines is a possible watch depending on how you feel after BEast Wars.
Animated is the best series after Beast Wars, but it has a stylised aesthetic that is not everyone's cup of tea.
I also recommend the last 15-20 episodes of Armada (don't need to see the preceding 30 episodes) and Cybertron and RID/Car Robots if you can get them, but neither series is a must watch.

Awesome, AWESOME feedback people. Thanks heaps for all of your responses so far...and based on all the hype of beast wars, I shall go and buy the complete set, if not 2moro, then definitely by the end of next week. Shame I wasn't equipped with this knowledge a couple of hours ago...I would have come home with both beast wars series AND the blu ray animated movie...
...which, by the way i quite enjoyed. Just finished watching. Definitely saw differences with True HD on my 40 inch Bravia. I've seen the original enough to notice differences straight away. Much smoother. More color. Worth it, in my opinion. I really hope they make MP09 Galvatron now

One more for the Beast Wars and Animated crowd - personally I prefer Animated but both are awesome, and if I were you I'd give Beast Wars priority.
I'm with Sky Shadow on the pseudo-jealousy front, you're in for a treat.
