Btw, HD that's some insane prices (& postage) you paid there for some empty boxes!

I couldn't ever fathom buying empty boxes, let alone paying those prices for them, but I guess that's what separates you and me... you're a true die hard collector, whereas I'm only a 'casual' one (that and a massive bank account!) lol

Whatever tickles your fancy I suppose

If you're happy, then I'm happy.

Nice work on that Pretender lot though - I'm a bit jealous!

Yeah I do remember writing that and u are totally correct as I'd never actually snipe anybody..
But usually I'll put in a highest bid and if i get outbid thats fine...
I was going to put in a bid but it was a bit too pricey for me

Also don't you have to pay some company to use snipes??
Thats what I heard anyway.. I'm not much of an ebay user I only have 6 feedbacks..

No man, sniping is just bidding in the last minute, usually the last few seconds. You can do it manually, use a free service or a paid service.

At the end of the day it's the highest bid that wins, not the last one. You can only get outbid by snipers if a) they're willing to pay more, which is the whole point of auctions, or b) you didn't bid as much as you were willing to pay, in which case it's your own fault.

Not at all... it's called patience (to sit and watch a clock count down), a web-enabled phone (to access eBay anywhere), cable internet (fast data transfer at home) and quick reaction time (to time the snipe perfectly) - it sounds like it might be cheaper to pay a company! lol

I'm the opposite, across my various accounts, I've got some 800 feedback from probably 900+ transactions

BTW, sorry to hijack your thread HD...

    Nice score HD
Seems like we go for the same stuff. Much obliged you let me win, sir.

That's exactly why I went for it. Buying them separately will be potentially very time consuming and since they are each not of very high value, its not quite worth it to ship them from the US and pay US$20 per piece for shipping individually. This seller is a really nice lady and in the end charged me US$15 to ship all 6 pretenders here.

I think its true that's its the highest bid that wins, but, I also think there is a difference in when the highest bid is put in. I find that if I put it in early, I usually get out bid by $1 to $0.50.

That's not really abnormal bearing in mind that eBay only ups the next bid in increments. But if the difference is that tiny (as opposed to say my highest bid being $10 and the auction ending at $50 for example), then chances are that it was only me and this other person interested in the auction. If that is the case, he/she has the advantage of being there at the end, because he/she can put in one or two bids, but get automatically outbidded by me since I put in something higher. BUT in the heat of the last few minutes and being normal human competitive, he/she might decide that its no longer the money, its the challenge of winning the auction, no matter the cost.

Consequently, they will bid till they outbid me. Looking at bidding histories from the auctions I lost, I certainly see that trend. Very often, it didn't matter that I was willing to bid slightly higher or a lot higher than market price, 99% of the time, if I'm not there at the last minutes, I lose any way.

Including the above, the reasons why I will only bid in the last minutes (and thus am guilty of sniping) is:
    - so that I can actually win the auction (which is my main concern);
    - so that I don't put in a high bid earlier and drive the price up for all concerned; and
    - erm... its actually a lot more exciting to bid last minute.

    You ARE crazy heroic_decepticon!!
but no matter, as im pretty sure everyone here is crazy in some way or another too...

Btw, I really like the term "ninja bidding" instead of sniping...
Its a real pitty i dont get much chance to do it these days as most of the stuff i want to buy have BIN's or Best offer's thus eliminating any chance for me to outbid somebody in the last 5 seconds and win it cheaply...*sigh*

Wait, wait, so you're buying boxes just to put toys into them? You're like a Shattered Glass Goktimus!
