I can't beat the Dragon-trainer gym leader and I lost interest in the hours it would take for me to level up my strongest Pokemon to be powerful enough to win that badge. Gold/Silver doesn't have any good level up areas like Diamond/Pearl did (with the helper characters who'd heal your pokemon after each battle in certain areas) so I find it boring and a waste of time fighting a few battles then having to go to get healed, repeat x 50 to level up maybe 3 times

Do you have a region changer on your Dreamcast?

I did a little bit of research on that, and found this

And another forum I found this quote "If one leaves the 12v wire connected permanently the flash chip fries after a while and there's no repair besides an replacement of the flash chip itself."

Yep, there's a mod chip or some hardware modification i think on it and the region changer CD was the one I used. But because the game wouldn't load, I turned off the power and start up the system again and that's when i got the black swirl of death.

I think the problem still hasn't been fixed.

Paulbot, that grass south of Mahogany town (? the town with the Dragon Gym) is an alright place to train, just have a Pokemon with fly on it to fly you back.

Training in HG/SS is a pain, have you switched out your starter, because I found that it is usually at good levels for the game as long as you have it in your team fairly constantly. If you have D/P/Plat, why not trade over and train them on that game?
One Ice Pokemon should be enough to help you get through that gym.

As for B/W, not sure which I'll get and I dont really like any of the starters, I normally go grass, but Snivy is weak and boring, the grass has such a tiny movepool and is slow as anything, and the water stater is just very average in everything.

Switching to Diamond and using the trade training advantage was my plan (or trading over my advanced pokemon from that game to fight that gym battle), but I've got to wait until I can borrow my sister's DS to do the trade and since I don't see her that often I kind of gave up and moved on. My Totodile is still one of my most powerful pokemon in my party, but I think I had Pokemon with Ice moves (like Gyarados) rather than Ice type pokemon.

I kinda like the look of the Tepig, and I've never had a Fire Starter before. I've used Water in Silver, Diamond and HeartGold (and Electric in Yellow but I didn't have a choice )

I'm thinking Tepig also. I've used Fire in every generation since the wonderful Cyndaquil, as the Water and Grass starters have ever appealed to me except my favourite ever Pokemon ever, Bulbasaur.

Still undecided as to getting Black or White. What is the actual release date? I keep hearing the 10th but then a guy at Gametraders told me the 15th.

EDIT: Getting Black. It has Houndour/Houndoom.

Nah man, the area leading up to the Elite 4 and Victory Road.
Lots of trainers, a healing house, higher levels and no exploding Geodudes or Gravelers

But you cannot get there until you have the eighth badge. A catch 22 if you will. Victory Road in HG/SS was the weakest part, only good for levelling up Water, fighting and Grass pokemon really, with all the Graveller's and Ursaring's and no trainers.

So the official release date is the 10th for Black and White, Kmart/Big W just have it in this weeks catalogue for $47 or so, which match up well...

-edit- And Victini will be available until April 28th via wireless connection or an instore visit to TRU/Gamesmen/EBGames.
