Default Who here doenst mind paying extra for a repaint??

Like the title says who is willing to pay more for repaints?? I cant justify the huge markups for these repaints not that I buy it or anything.

I was looking at my G1 toys and i think what makes this line so good is taht no matter how small they were they had a different head sculpt. Apart from some seekers and smokescreen etc. Even Hoist and trailbrekaer had different head sculpts. I think if you're going to repaint something and jack up the price it deserves at least a new head, if it is suppose to be a different character.

Like the universe Hardhead to me that is just an onslaught and same with dreadwing to me he is just silverbolt. To me they are just being lazy wouldnt you agree???

Hehe to me G1 is and will always be the best with a few exceptions like a few of the universe and masterpeice and binaltechs. Each of the G1 toys had different heads and the moulds weren't reused over and over again. Who else would like to add their opinion???

I don't mind getting a redeco but I wouldn't necessarily pay a slight premium for it unless it's a mold that I quite like (eg Classics Grimlock/Universe Overkill or Classics Starscream/Classics Skywarp)

If the toy has had a redeco and a slight retooling (eg head/face), I might consider paying more for it seeing as it is somewhat 'different', but usually the justification is quite difficult unless it is significantly different (eg Henkei Dirge/Thrust).

Unless it's a limited exclusive then I wouldn't pay extra for a straight repaint. :/

Um... only if Bluestreak, Prowl, Smokescreen, Red Bumblebee, Yellow Bumblebee, Red Cliffjumper, Yellow Cliffjumper, Ironhide, Ratchet, Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, Rumble, Frenzy, Sideswipe, Red Alert, Starscream, Thundercracker, Skywarp, Dirge, Ramjet, Thrust, Grapple, Inferno, Eject, Rewind, Storm Cloud, Skyhopper, Axer, Circuit, Wheeljack, Slicer, Rumbler, Sprocket, Powertrain, Ironworks, Hammer, Cement-Head, Sledge, Terror-Tread, Knockout, Gusher, Grit, Pipeline, Whisper, Groundshaker, Hot House, Tailwind, Greasepit, Muslinger, Tailwind, Hot House, twenty-four permutations of Minispies and a bunch of other G1 toys never existed in the eighties and nineties. Except they did.

Personally, many of my favourite toys from my collection are more-expensive modern G1 repaints. Gadep, Black Ironhide, Green Ratchet, Bug Bite, Bad Boy, Treds, Small Foot, Path Finder, Road Ranger, Detritus, Overcharge, Magnificus, Orion Pax, Glit, Garboil and many more of my most treasured toys are 'marked-up' repaints - I like them that way. Some of them are even 'prepaints' like my pre-transformers Chop Shop. And then there are my weird Brazilian and Argentinean recolours. And my three Macross 'Jetfires'.

Personally, as long as someone official keeps releasing weird recolours of G1 toys, I'll keep buying them.

I don't mind interesting/creative/well thought out repaints. I generally will only pay extra if it's something that fits into the above and is limited (such as the e-Hobby exclusives Sky Shadow has mentioned).

Sadly, Hasbro's recent repaints generally falls outside the limits I set above (IMO, anyway), I'm finding myself buying less and less repaints. I find pointless repaints such as "Patrol Barricade" or "First Encounter" or whatever, and wouldn't even buy those at a discount. If there's a clever repaint such as the (transparent) BT Mirage or a new character such as Detritus, I'm usually keen, and will often pay a little more.

I don't mind paying 'extra' for Botcon repaints. And if an exclusive repaint is something I just can't miss out on (like Movie Fracture was, or the ROTF coloured G1 Skids) I don't mind paying a bit extra to import them.

Yeah I know that repaints are inevitable for Hasbro seeing as it can make them some extra money but with recent repaints they arent actual characters from a cartoon. With G1 i know there are repaints but they are from a cartoon so it looks the same. I do believe some characters have the same vehicle mode but have a different face which I like and think is good. My main grudge is against the current universe line with jeftire repaint, and onslaught, silverboat. They are expensive for a repaint.

Depends on the repaint and whether I have another version of the mold. My main reason for getting SE Overkill was that I never got Classics Grimlock.
