    Arrow 20th Anniversary Prime & MP-04: a comparison

What with the new hoo-haa about MP-04s in stock again, I decide to take some shots of my 20th Anniv. prime and MP-04 for those of you who cannot decide if you want to get it or just to have a comparison.

    Pros of MP-04:
~ Closer colour accuracy or Prime to cartoon and comics
~ Longer and chrome smoke stacks
~ Other chrome parts such as the matrix, engine cover and side tanks
~ Crystal blue eyes where you can shine a light through
~ Better joint transformation such as the legs portion; Need to push the side tanks to slide the legs in, unlike my 20th Prime which is loose already, it just slides in and out when it likes sometimes!

    Cons of MP-04
~ Quality of the new stocks seemed to be degrading considering its Takara. There's like a huge scratch on the right hand side of the shoulder
~ Paint job seems to be done in a rush
~ Some parts don't fit properly after transformation into truck

Have a look at it yourselves
Left is 20th Prime and Right is MP-04:

Overall, I'll still prefer MP-04 also because of the Trailer that comes with it. The one by JustItToys does not open up and its just like a box that only opens at its end. Wheres the MP-04 trailer is just like the original G1s, you can open up the sides as well, but it just doesn't come with the mini-con.

Still, I'd keep 20th Prime because I like the electronic voice base that comes with it and I like to keep one in robot mode and the other in truck mode for nicer display too. But I've gotta say, the most accurate MP Prime will be the 2004 20th Annim Prime because that's the only figure in which the gun comes in black colour (MP-04's gun is grey colour). Then again, it's pretty easy to buy black Tamiya paint to repaint the guns if you want.

Alright people, chuck in your share of comments too.

P.S: I'm not sure if there's a similar topic somewhere, if yes administrators, please move it. Thanks

I have MP-1 which in theory is exactly the same as MP-4 without the trailer.

He does have some QC issues such as a loose hip joint in one of the legs and really poor application of the blue paint on the legs. Overall the figure is very good but it seems to me that Takara has been slacking off a bit when it comes to quality in Die cast toys.

However they are still miles ahead of Hasbro's dodgyness which is more related to cost cutting in toy manufacturing for increased profits rather than bad QC.

The Primes look like they are dancing in the photo's, I only have the original 20th anniversary Prime so I can't enter into the discussion properly, especially when I still haven't pulled my Prime out of it's box.

Whoa. The paintjob on the Hasbro one is so.... lifeless!

The Hasbro one Mel has is the DVD version. The original Hasbro one did have chrome, but still has short smokestacks. Along with make-up-gun battle damage.

    Do they? I didn't realise...

Anyway yeah, mine is the DVD version, so the original 2004 version with the black gun must have been the one with chrome as dirge mentioned. If anyone could supply a photo of it, that would be good.

But I agree, hasbro has (low quality to make profits) issues while Takara sometimes has Q/C issues..

The 2004 version came with either a black or a grey gun, actually.

Here we go. The ones that dirge supplied are from the boxart. Here's the actual toy in all it's... shame really. Silly Hasbro, unnecessary makeup is not good!

It was designed to have battle damage.
