Star Wars Vintage Collection 2010

I recently seen this on Toyark

Jedi News was given the 1st looks at the 1st wave of Vintage Collection figures from the 2010 Star Wars line. This wave focuses on Empire Strikes Back, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the epic film. The new version of Luke Skywalker does feature an improved sculpt over the previous VOTC version, most notably with the head sculpt; the droopy eyes are gone! It also looks like this figure may have ball jointed hips, sure to aid in recreating the scene towards the end of ESB when Luke hangs off of an antenna before dropping into the Millenium Falcon. The figures shown are:
Luke Skywalker in Bespin fatigues
Princess Leia
Dengar
AT AT Commander (possibly General Veers)

Is this a brand new line?

It says the 1st wave of 2010 but Hasbro says that for all its figure lines at the start of the year

Star Wars figures are very confusing but if this is a new line based on the original trilogy then I may pick some up. I will have to go find a BMF now

Highly articulated Star Wars figures have been around for quite some time dude. The problem is that it's inconsistent... _sometimes_ they're highly articulated and sometimes they're not. :/

I don't think we have many SW collectors here, so you may not have anyone here who can answer you. Maybe just try doing a google/bing search for 'Star Wars 2010' (include 'wiki' in your search if nothing comes up).

Yeah thats just the problem. I know the highly articulated figures have been around for a while, I just wouldn't know where to start.

It's not a new line as such - just a new name with new packaging. "Vintage Collection" is just a fan placeholder name: in reality its everything Star Wars that isn't CGI Clone Wars. So yeah, they'll be Original Trilogy stuff, but prequel stuff and EU stuff too (I reckon they chose to showcase ESB due to the anniversary. It just couldn't be that long since I first saw it).

As for getting definitive versions - which you mentioned in a later post - there's plenty out there already. From a certain point of view... There are some truly great Star Wars figures out there if buy what you like and ignore fan hyperbole about the crimes of misplaced paint apps or missing articulation.

But what would I know, I still love my buff POTF 2 Luke with Desert Skiff...

Not really, and it's truly not worth worrying about the Ultimate Luke. All releases have positives and negatives and things that could've been better. But I like them for what they are and I tend to only buy what I like. You should probably do the same.

Given your returning to collecting I'd recommend you browse the photo archives of rebelscum. Each figure is photograghed comprehensively, including articulation breakdowns, and for regularly released characters they typically do side by side comparisons of previous versions.

You might want to visit galactichunter.com to check out Adam Pawlus' Figure of the Day (he's up past the 1200 mark). He provides a good breakdown of figures, their place in the line's history, and overall useful reviews.
