I don't blame you guys for not wanting to collect G1. If I had to start collecting G1 now I wouldn't bother.

I have 525 G1 Transformers. Although that's according to the Universal Counting Method and not the counting parameters that kup established for this thread. It's mostly similar but there are some differences like I count Reflector as 3 not 1, and Blackout and Spaceshot count as 2 not 1. According to the parameters of this thread I would have 388 G1 TFs

Counting the Seacons etc twice could be considered a little pedantic unless one collects MISB. Which we all know Gok would never do! (:

This count is not about how many toys are in a collection but how many toys are in the line. You wouldn't count the gestalts because they are not an extra toy, they are made up from the individual combiner team members.

No, I'm referring to counting both the US Seacons and the Japanese Seacons. Along with say, both Cab & Hosehead... etc...

kup: I know, and I'm not questioning the counting criteria for this thread at all. But in order to make a meaningful comparison with the "total number of G1 TFs" as calculated here I would have to make sure that my count adheres to the parameters of this thread. Anyway, I've done a quick recount according to the rules of this thread, so I've removed a lot of stuff that counts under UCM but doesn't count here like variants. There's also stuff from my own personal "Gokiverse" method of classification that had to be removed too, for example I include e-Hobby exclusives as part of G1 (I see it as 'retconned G1', so for example I have Road Rage and Crosscut on my 1985 G1 Autobot shelf/list and they had to be discounted for the purposes of this thread).

So I came to 392 G1 Transformers which means that my total G1 collection is 69% complete - but that is of course including Japanese G1 which I have no intention of ever completing.

According to thread parameters the total number of Hasbro G1 TFs (1984-1993) would be 435. So this means that my Hasbro G1 TF collection is 90% complete.

Yeah I understand that you understand I was just making it clear for the purpose of this thread.

Like you, I also consider 'G1 Universe' toys like E-hobby as part of my G1 collection. I display them with my G1 toys where space allows mostly based on 'fictional universe' classification than actual toy release - Naturally given display space being a bit of a luxury, I can't follow that strictly.

Although the characters are different, the toys are exactly the same. I take it as 'the Japanese fictional take on that toy' for simplification, kind of how the G1 Swoop toy represents both the vastly different characterization from the cartoon and comic.

So only the Japanese toys that are physically different from their US G1 counterpart can have a separate count but not toys that are identical. This would also cover the issue that loose toys represent. Most of my 1988 Pretenders were bought loose so I have no idea if 'The bat Pretender guy' was originally Bomburst or Blood. However those toys painted different to their counterparts (eg Dreadwind and Buster) count as separate due to distinction.

In the case of Seacons, they are identical toys to the US counterparts as far as I know, so they don't have a separate count.

I like this counting method kup.

I won't have anywhere near to 100% of G1 because I have no intentions of starting, much less completing 1990 (AMs just don't do it for me; Pretenders and MMs are about as far as I'll let myself go).
